Thanks to Windows 11, you can save energy, extend a portable PC\u2019s battery life, and lengthen your screen\u2019s lifespan if you configure your monitor or screen to automatically turn off after a certain period of time. Here\u2019s how to set it up.<\/p>\n

First, launch the Settings app<\/a> by pressing Windows+i on your keyboard. Or right-click the Start button and select \u201cSettings\u201d in the menu.<\/p>\n

In Settings, select \u201cSystem\u201d in the sidebar, then click \u201cPower & Battery.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Click<\/p>\n

In Power and Battery options, click \u201cScreen and Sleep\u201d to expand the section if necessary.<\/p>\n

\"Expand<\/p>\n

The \u201cScreen and Sleep\u201d menu will reveal two to four options, depending on the type of PC you have. If you\u2019re on a battery-powered tablet PC or laptop, you\u2019ll see four options. If you\u2019re using a desktop PC, you\u2019ll see only two options.<\/p>\n

To set how long it takes for your screen to turn off (if your PC is inactive), click the drop-down menu beside \u201cOn battery power, turn my screen off after\u201d and select a time period, such as \u201c5 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similarly, use the drop-down menu labeled \u201cWhen plugged in, turn my screen off after\u201d to choose a screen turn-off time for when your computer is hooked to a steady power supply. If you never want the screen to turn off, select \u201cNever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Using<\/p>\n

On this same page, you can also configure your PC to go to sleep after a certain time period as well, if you\u2019d like. Sleeping is a special low-power state where your computer stops running tasks but can be resumed quickly when you need it.<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re done, close Settings. From now on, when your PC sits idle for the length of time you specified, your monitor or screen will turn off automatically. To turn it back on, wiggle your mouse, tap your screen, or tap a key like the space bar.<\/p>\n

Also, If you\u2019d like to keep your screen on but prevent burn-in on a CRT or Plasma display, you can set up a screen saver instead. Good luck!<\/p>\n
