{"id":363938,"date":"2021-11-02T21:19:57","date_gmt":"2021-11-02T18:19:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/british-government-considers-punishment-for-causing-psychological-harm-through-online-abuse\/"},"modified":"2021-11-02T21:19:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T18:19:57","slug":"british-government-considers-punishment-for-causing-psychological-harm-through-online-abuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/british-government-considers-punishment-for-causing-psychological-harm-through-online-abuse\/","title":{"rendered":"#British government considers punishment for causing \u2018psychological harm\u2019 through online abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#British government considers punishment for causing \u2018psychological harm\u2019 through online abuse<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1309763384.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Online \u201ctrolls\u201d could face two years in\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/crime\">prison<\/a>\u00a0for messages or content that cause \u201cpsychological harm\u201d as the\u00a0British\u00a0government considers new\u00a0legislation\u00a0to combat online abuse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Department for Culture, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> and Sports has accepted recommendations from the Law Commission to base crimes on \u201clikely psychological harm\u201d after a number of high-profile online abuse cases involving sports journalists and Premier League athletes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ministers will consider a new law that will shift the focus from the content of a message to its effect, creating offenses of \u201cthreatening communications,\u201d \u201cknowingly false communication\u201d and \u201cpile-ons,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/5cdadf7c-3a85-11ec-9bef-aa3112940013?utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1635762847\">The Times<\/a>\u00a0reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThreatening communications,\u201d for example, will target messages and posts that contain threats of harm intended to mainly create a state of fear for the victim, while \u201cpile-ons\u201d would address an incident in which a number of individuals gang up on someone with harassing messages on social media.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plan has been sent to the cabinet for <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval, with Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries reportedly intending to add the new offenses to a bill that will be introduced to Parliament next month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are making our laws fit for the digital age,\u201d a government spokesman told The Times. \u201cOur comprehensive Online Safety Bill will make tech companies responsible for people\u2019s safety and we are carefully considering the Law Commission\u2019s recommendations on strengthening criminal offenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move will likely prompt opposition from freedom of speech and civil liberties advocates.<\/p>\n<p>Former cabinet minister David Davis argued that assessing a message based on impact is too subjective.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Executive Director Jim Killock of Open Rights Group said the new offenses were too broad.<\/p>\n<p>The new bill is one of a number of proposals to go before the government in the wake of a difficult year that saw protests against a number of issues, from Black Lives Matter to the announcement of a soccer Super League that many believed would threaten the financial well-being of sports across Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New laws around the limits of protests have been set out in a proposed Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, which has cleared all review in the House of Commons and is currently under review in the House of Lords, according to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bills.parliament.uk\/bills\/2839\">a government website<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cPolice Bill,\u201d first proposed in March of this year, would expand police powers to limit protests, such as how long they last each day or how loud the protesters can be.
