\n Erin O\u2019Toole<\/strong> chastised CPC MPs on Monday for spreading confusion about vaccination, CP reports<\/a>. He was responding, in part, comments<\/a> from Marilyn Gladu<\/strong>, who said COVID didn\u2019t pose the same \u201cfrequency of risk\u201d as polio.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a big difference between advocating for your constituents who may need reasonable accommodation,\u201d said O\u2019Toole. \u201cIt\u2019s very different to cause confusion<\/strong> with respect to the health and well-being of Canadians. Ms. Gladu\u2019s interview did that yesterday and it\u2019s not app<\/a>ropriate<\/strong> at a time we should be answering questions about vaccine hesitancy, not creating new questions.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also pointed to comments from Leslyn Lewis<\/strong> and Dean Allison<\/strong> as problematic: \u201cIt\u2019s a great example of why members of Parliament, of all strip<\/a>es, should let the professionals, let the public health officials, let the physicians answer questions about efficacy of vaccines or provincial programs on vaccination.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Toole has declined to say how many of his MPs have are not vaccinated. The story overshadowed his attack on Trudeau for considering a governing arrangement with the NDP.<\/p>\n

Trudeau attacks:<\/strong> Justin Trudeau<\/strong>, presiding over his party\u2019s first caucus meeting since the election, attacked CPC vaccination confusion<\/strong>, but did not mention the talks with the NDP around a potential governing deal.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Toole warned that any such deal be bad for the economy: \u201cThis coalition will create billions in news<\/a> spending that will further drive up inflation even more. And this coalition will mean that Jagmeet Singh will be able to push an even more radical agenda<\/strong> that will threaten the livelihood of millions of Canadians.\u201d<\/p>\n

Caucus divided:<\/strong> La Presse canadienne<\/em> surveys MPs and finds no consensus<\/a> on the desirability of such a deal.<\/p>\n

Not easy:<\/strong> In the Globe<\/em>, Campbell Clark<\/strong> gets to the heart of the matter: It would not be easy to agree on the limits of a supply agreement, since governments may rely on confidence votes to unjam Parliamentary logjams.<\/p>\n

So while the Liberals and NDP might be able to get their heads around the idea of co-operation, and come up with a legislative agenda, they would still have to work out those things \u2013 because they cut to the bottom line of a parliamentary deal. Such an arrangement would typically require the NDP to pledge support on key confidence matters such as budgets, but if the New Democrats renounce all rights to vote non-confidence, the Liberals would be able to stymie many of Parliament\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Not so hard: John Ivison<\/strong>\u00a0writes<\/a> in the Post<\/em> that Trudeau has it easy, given his opponents.<\/p>\n

What about the MPs? Susan Delacourt<\/strong> writes<\/a> in the Star<\/em> that Trudeau should pay more attention to his caucus.<\/p>\n

Pas impressionn\u00e9: Chrystia Freeland<\/strong> joined in the chorus Monday of those disappointed in the linguistic shortcomings\u00a0of Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau<\/strong>, the Globe reports<\/a>.\u00a0 Freeland wrote to Air Canada\u2019s chairman on Monday to say that learning to speak French should become part of Rousseau\u2019s performance review.<\/div>\n

Not so trusted: Fran\u00e7ois-Philippe Champagne<\/strong> told CP<\/a> Monday that Canada only wants to deal with \u201ctrusted partners\u201d in AI, a\u00a0 signal that the Canadian rejection of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei as a 5G provider is at hand.<\/p>\n

Brilliant campaign: Steve Allan<\/strong>, who ran the Alberta public inquiry into the funding of environmentalists, has given a surprising interview<\/a> to the Globe in which he says his report should be a wake-up call for the province\u2019s government and oil sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the industry and government have really failed,\u201d Mr. Allan said. \u201cIt was a brilliant campaign,\u201d he continued, referring to activism opposing Alberta\u2019s oil industry. \u201cIt was a brilliant strategy. It was well-executed and everybody can learn from it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Inflation threat:<\/strong> In the Post<\/em>, Kelly McParland<\/strong> worries that<\/a> Canada\u2019s leaders are too young to understand the dangers of runaway inflation.<\/p>\n

Wrong priority?<\/strong> Canadian officials who met with members of a Ukrainian battalion linked to neo-Nazis didn\u2019t denounce the unit, but were instead concerned the media<\/a> would expose details of the get-together, according to documents cited by<\/a> David Pugliese<\/strong> in the Citizen<\/em>.<\/section>\n

Too deferential:<\/strong> In the Hill Times<\/em>, Susan Riley<\/strong> casts a cold eye<\/a>\u00a0on politicians who are falling over themselves to back away from showdowns with unjabbed health workers.<\/p>\n
