\n Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday that the state will open 15 coronavirus testing centers solely for protesters \u2014 urging marchers to \u201cact responsibly and get a test\u201d amid concerns that the large anti-police-brutality rallies sweeping New York City are spreading the deadly contagion.<\/p>\n

With the Big App<\/a>le finally set to begin re-opening under Phase One of state guidelines Monday amid the pandemic, officials are worried that the large local protests over George Floyd\u2019s death at the hands of cops in Minneapolis could send New York\u2019s coronavirus cases soaring again, the governor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is the one variable in this [coronavirus] equation that we\u2019re not sure of \u2014 the effect of these protests, and we\u2019re concerned about it,\u201d Cuomo said at his daily press briefing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would act as if you were exposed, and I would tell people you interacted with, \u2018Assume I\u2019m exposed to the virus,\u2019 \u201d Cuomo said of the protesters.<\/p>\n

He said the state will be looking at the infection rate \u201con a daily basis\u201d to see whether re-openings might have to be pulled back.<\/p>\n

He said it will likely take a week to see whether the rallies had any substantial effect on the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were at a protest several days ago, [infection] probably wouldn\u2019t show up [now], but when you get at seven days, you will start to see a pop in those numbers\u201d if the protests caused the disease to spread, Cuomo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were at a protest \u2026 act responsibly, get a test,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Cuomo added that as of Saturday, statistics show that \u201coverall, numbers are good\u201d when it comes to the state\u2019s battle against the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

He said 781 people, or about 1 percent, tested positive for the virus in the state Saturday out of the 60,435 people were received testing that day \u2014 the lowest rate since March 16, even before the state began closing down.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
