\n Buckle up your seatbelts, New York!<\/p>\n

The state Department of Motor Vehicles will now allow DMV-licensed driving schools to conduct \u201cdistance learning\u201d via video conference platforms for the mandatory five-hour pre-licensing course, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Beginning Wednesday, the DMV will permit driving schools to hold the course using \u201cZoom and Webex and Skype and whatever technology<\/a> that they deem app<\/a>ropriate,\u201d Cuomo told reporters during a conference call.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand student drivers can\u2019t appear in person and this will allow them to participate online so they can get their driver\u2019s license and they can do it safely,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n

Driving schools across the state have been unable to offer the pre-licensing course due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

Student drivers must still take a road test to obtain a license and the DMV is accepting reservations for road tests statewide.<\/p>\n

The DMV will honor any pre-licensing course completion certificates that expired during the COVID-19 crisis and those whose road tests were canceled because of the pandemic are being given priority for rescheduling.<\/p>\n

All customers including anyone inside a vehicle arriving at a test site must wear face coverings and social<\/a> distance from other customers and staff whenever possible, according to the agency.<\/p>\n

Under the DMV\u2019s coronavirus safety protocols, customers will also need to disinfect the passenger side of the vehicle with disinfectant wipes upon arrival.<\/p>\n

Temperature checks will be administered prior to the beginning of the road test.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there are multiple applicants in a vehicle, and one of the applicants, or the accompanying driver, does not pass the screening process, none of the applicants in the vehicle will be tested at that time,\u201d according to the DMV.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
