\nReleased in March 2006, \u201cHustlin’\u201d put Rick Ross on the map. The larger-than-life street anthem cracked the Billboard Hot 100 while pushing his debut album Port of Miami<\/em> \u2014 which arrived later that year \u2014 to the top of the Billboard 200.<\/p>\n

\u201cHustlin’\u201d didn\u2019t just flood the streets in Rozay\u2019s native M-I-A-Yo, though. The underground hit made it all the way to Brooklyn, where it captured the attention of one of Hip Hop\u2019s finest hustlers, JAY-Z. In fact, Hov was \u201cmesmerized\u201d by the song, according to former NBA pro Jamal Crawford.<\/p>\n

During a recent app<\/a>earance on fellow NBA retirees Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson\u2019s All The Smoke<\/em> podcast, Crawford recalled going to dinner with JAY-Z during his time on the New York Knicks in the mid 2000s and observing his reaction to Rick Ross\u2019 hustler\u2019s anthem.<\/p>\n

\u201cJAY-Z, I remember we went to eat after a game<\/a>, and he was playing Rick Ross \u2026 \u2018Everyday I\u2019m Hustlin,’\u201d he remembered. \u201cAnd Jay was mesmerized by the song. He was like, \u2018Whip it, whip it real hard!\u2019 He kept saying that part, he loved<\/em> it. And that was my introduction to Rick Ross, through JAY-Z. Ross has never heard that story.\u201d<\/p>\n
