“#Duo arrested for attacking Trader Joe\u2019s workers who asked them to wear masks<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n A pair of men went berserk and attacked several workers at a Manhattan Trader Joe\u2019s \u2014 with one threatening to shoot the workers \u2014 when they were told they had to wear masks inside, police said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The fracas at the store\u2019s East 32nd Street location happ<\/a>ened July 14 around 8:50 p.m., when the men, John Carrero and Alejandro Escobar, entered without face masks on, police said.<\/p>\n

Several employees told the men, both 34, to leave \u2014 and that\u2019s when they allegedly yanked a mask off one worker, cops said.<\/p>\n

Carrero then hit a 22-year-old female worker in the head with a paddle, causing a cut and concussion \u2014 while Escobar threatened to come back with a firearm, according to police and court papers.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t make me get my gun,\u201d he allegedly told workers, the complaint said.<\/p>\n

After leaving, Escobar threw a chair at the store\u2019s window and tried to get back inside, according to police.<\/p>\n

Carrero, who lives in Hudson Yards, was charged with second-degree assault, while Escobar, of Mott Haven, faces criminal trespass and harassment charges.<\/p>\n

Both were released on their own recognizance and are due to return to court Oct. 13.<\/p>\n

Trader Joe\u2019s spokeswoman Kenya Friend-Daniel said as many as eight employees were involved in the scuffle, including one who was taken to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can tell you it was a very frightening and unfortunate incident and we are grateful that our Crew Members are okay,\u201d she said in an email.<\/p>\n

The store, which is cooperating with the investigation, has since hired a security guard.<\/p>\n

Escobar\u2019s lawyer, Gloria Keum, blamed the store.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Trader Joe\u2019s location has multiple reviews that the store is rude, racist and overly aggressive,\u201d she told The Post in a text message.<\/p>\n

Carrero\u2019s attorneys couldn\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely be reached by The Post.<\/p>\n

Escobar denied the allegations to NBC News<\/a>, saying he was wearing a face mask that covered his mouth and part of his nose because he has asthma.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never would\u2019ve thought that this would turn into a nightmare like this,\u201d said Escobar, who was filming for his YouTube channel at the time.<\/p>\n

He also blamed the fight on a store worker who \u201cput hands\u201d on Carrero.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he got assaulted, he snapped,\u201d Escobar said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
