{"id":368983,"date":"2021-11-18T16:38:55","date_gmt":"2021-11-18T13:38:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/new-jobless-claims-march-lower-toward-pre-pandemic-level\/"},"modified":"2021-11-18T16:38:55","modified_gmt":"2021-11-18T13:38:55","slug":"new-jobless-claims-march-lower-toward-pre-pandemic-level","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/new-jobless-claims-march-lower-toward-pre-pandemic-level\/","title":{"rendered":"#New jobless claims march lower toward pre-pandemic level"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#New jobless claims march lower toward pre-pandemic level<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The number of Americans newly seeking\u00a0jobless\u00a0benefits dropped again last week, inching closer to pre-pandemic levels\u00a0amid the historically tight labor market, the feds said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>As of last week, initial filings for unemployment benefits, seen as a proxy for layoffs, fell to 268,000,\u00a0down 1,000 from the prior week\u2019s revised level of 269,000, according to data released Thursday by the Labor Department.<\/p>\n<p>Economists surveyed by Dow Jones expected to see new claims fall even lower, to 260,000\u00a0after seeing four consecutive weeks of decreases.<\/p>\n<p>Weekly new claims have fallen substantially from the 2020 peak of about 6.1 million new claims in a single week, and in recent weeks have inched closer to the 200,000 new claims per week seen before the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Still, economists say the labor market has a long way to go before reaching normalcy after national reads on employment over the last three months have mostly failed to impress economists. <\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s report also showed that continuing claims fell by 129,000 from the prior week\u2019s revised level, according to the new data.
