“#Why Is The FBI’s Case On Brian Laundrie Still Open??

\nWell, this is an odd wrinkle. As we\u2019ve reported, there are a great many folks online following the\u00a0Brian Laundrie<\/strong> case who are convinced it\u2019s not nearly as over as it seems.<\/p>\n

This is, of course, despite the fact the 23-year-old fugitive was found and his remains officially identified based on his dental records. Don\u2019t get us started on some of the theories on why this isn\u2019t the end of the\u00a0Gabby Petito<\/strong> case. Just check \u2019em out HERE.<\/p>\n

But those who think big news<\/a> may still be on the way got a little fuel on Thursday as\u00a0Brian Entin<\/strong>, probably\u00a0the<\/em> lead reporter who has been the closest to this story since the beginning, pointed out something very strange. The FBI<\/strong> has not closed its case.<\/p>\n

The federal bank fraud charge \u2014 the only charge filed against him, for allegedly using Gabby\u2019s debit card \u2014 is still listed as an active investigation. But if they confirmed his death by IDing him, wouldn\u2019t that mean case closed<\/em>?<\/p>\n

Well, according to Entin, it\u2019s a bureaucratic requirement keeping the case open at this point. While Brian\u2019s identity was confirmed, his cause of death was not. Until the autopsy is finished, a death certificate cannot be issued, and therefore the case cannot be closed. The reporter explained on\u00a0Twitter<\/a><\/strong> on\u00a0Thursday:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m told once the autopsy is officially complete \u2014 and a death certificate is issued \u2014 Federal prosecutors would then file a motion in Wyoming to drop that case. That has not happ<\/a>ened yet and it is still showing active.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What\u2019s the holdup on the autopsy? Well, when the remains were first discovered we heard it was going to be tricky as such \u201ca small part\u201d of a body was found. We guess that\u2019s why, almost a month later, we still don\u2019t even have a cause of death. The question is, will we ever? What if there\u2019s not enough body left to know for sure??<\/p>\n

Annoyingly, that also means other information being kept from the press. According to Entin, the North Port Police Department<\/strong> refuses to release certain reports and videos the media has requested while the FBI investigation is still active. That\u2019s certainly convenient for them \u2014 something tells us outcry for a state investigation into the NPPD won\u2019t lessen if they have to release the video of Brian\u2019s mother they thought was him.<\/p>\n

Obviously for many following the case, all of this just doesn\u2019t add up \u2014 and we can\u2019t say we blame them. You\u2019d think the feds would put a rush job at the very least on DNA testing for the remains to put minds at ease.<\/p>\n

But as to the idea this all means the FBI aren\u2019t closing the case because they aren\u2019t convinced he\u2019s really dead yet? We just can\u2019t buy in on that one. Not when there\u2019s a simpler explanation.<\/p>\n
