{"id":370025,"date":"2021-11-19T19:25:55","date_gmt":"2021-11-19T16:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/roku-to-develop-more-than-50-shows-over-next-two-years\/"},"modified":"2021-11-19T19:25:55","modified_gmt":"2021-11-19T16:25:55","slug":"roku-to-develop-more-than-50-shows-over-next-two-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/roku-to-develop-more-than-50-shows-over-next-two-years\/","title":{"rendered":"#Roku to develop more than 50 shows over next two years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Roku to develop more than 50 shows over next two years<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Roku plans to develop more than 50 original shows over the next two years in a bid to drive more customers to its Roku Channel, according to a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/roku-plans-to-develop-more-than-50-original-shows-in-next-two-years-11637326800?mod=business_lead_pos3\">report from the Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The streaming service, which has roughly 155 million customers, has been bulking up the channel\u2019s free library of shows and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> for some time and it is now looking for a way to profit. The company said roughly half of its customer base watches the channel\u2019s free ad-supported shows and movies, which it licenses from more than 200 other <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> outlets. <\/p>\n<p>The push into original shows is linked in part to the fact that Roku can gain more advertising dollars from titles housed in the Roku Channel. Roku declined to provide insight on how much it would fork over for original shows, but it told the Journal that it would be on par with basic cable shows. <\/p>\n<p>That translates to a $250,000 to $750,000 investment per un<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ed episode and $500,000 to $5 million per scripted episode, the publication said.<\/p>\n<p>Although that sounds pricey, it\u2019s still significantly lower than the $13 million an episode that Netflix shells out for its historical drama about Queen Elizabeth II, \u201cThe Crown.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/roku_04.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"In this photo illustration the Roku logo is seen displayed on a smartphone.\" class=\"wp-image-20203102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/roku_04.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/roku_04.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/roku_04.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Roku, which has over 155 million customers, is looking to amp up its entertainment offerings in order to further grow its advertising revenue.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">SOPA Images\/LightRocket via Gett<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Unlike Netflix, Roku primarily makes its money from selling its $30 streaming stick, as well as from ads in streaming apps that live on its platform and content partnerships with media companies. <\/p>\n<p>In order to keep growing revenue, Roku has been expanding its entertainment portfolio as it competes head to head for eyeballs against Amazon Fire TV.\u00a0Earlier this year, Roku nabbed the exclusive global rights to 75 shows from Jeffrey Katzenberg\u2019s doomed startup Quibi, which featured short-form shows starring the likes of Kevin Hart, Idris Elba, Jennifer Lopez and Nick Jonas.<\/p>\n<p>Roku claims the Quibi deal, which cost it less than $100 million, has \u201csurpassed\u201d its \u201cexpectations,\u201d bringing in \u201cmillions of people\u201d to the Roku Channel. Although it doesn\u2019t break out figures, Roku said the amount of time customers streamed its content rose significantly during the pandemic. Last year, the service brought in nearly $1.3 billion in revenue from its platform business, which includes ads it sells in the Roku Channel and other apps on its platform. <\/p>\n<div it acquired from Quibi that haven\u2019t yet premiered. <\/p>\n<p>Other original titles will include Roky\u2019s first original film, \u201cZoey\u2019s Extraordinary Christmas,\u201d a spinoff of the NBC show \u201cZoey\u2019s Extraordinary Playlist\u201d produced in a partnership with\u00a0Lions Gate Entertainment.\u00a0It will debut on the service on Dec. 1. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe were one of the first studios to team up with The Roku Channel in 2017, and our relationship has continued to evolve to include the development of great original projects such as \u2018Zoey\u2019s Extraordinary Christmas\u2019 in addition to our longstanding licensing collaboration,\u201d Lionsgate\u00a0president of worldwide television distribution Jim Packer told The Post. \u201cAs The Roku Channel
