Nobody knew about it until Craig began telling [the Kleiman] family some details after Dave passed away [in 2013] and Craig decided to keep the fortune for himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe the court will find there\u2019s nothing to indicate or record that they were in a partnership,\u201d said Andr\u00e9s Rivero, a lawyer for Wright.<\/p>\n<p>Kleiman, a paraplegic, died under terrible conditions. When he was discovered, his body had begun to decompose, open bottles of alcohol were scattered around and, according to the complaint, there was \u201ca loaded handgun next to him. A bullet hole in his mattress was found. The exact details surrounding his death remain unknown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If he himself had a stash of Bitcoin, it was never recovered and there was no known password.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-e2a216c5-7fa8-4154-b824-7b5fd7a3f1b5\">Bitcoin started in 2008, after \u201cNakamoto\u201d published online an open-source paper introducing a new form of digital currency: designed to be used without the need for a central bank. Its initial\u00a0worth was less than a penny. The number of Bitcoins in circulation will top out after a finite 21 million are mined \u2014 unlike traditional currency, which can be endlessly minted.<\/p>\n<p>The identity of Nakamoto has become one of the great mysteries of our time, with everyone from Elon Musk to Swedish video-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> developer Vili Lehdonvirta to American computer scientist Nick Szabo being tossed around as the man behind the myth. Wright, however, is the one person to step up and actually claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto.<\/p>\n<p>While <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2021\/11\/17\/kleiman-v-wright-trial-craig-wrights-flinty-4-day-testimony-comes-to-an-end\/\">testifying on the witness stand<\/a> earlier this month, Wright, according to coindesk.com, claimed to have written the white paper that laid out the inner workings of Bitcoin and was credited to Satoshi Nakamoto.<\/p>\n<p>But there are vehement doubters who do not believe that Wright is the real Nakamoto. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/vv77z9\/craig-wright-satoshi-nakamoto-evidence-signature-is-worthless\">lying, full stop<\/a>,\u201d maintained the well-regarded security researcher Dan Kaminsky via <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>. \u201cSatoshi signed a transaction in 2009. He wanted to hand it over to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright grew up in Brisbane, Australia, and says he has a PhD in computer <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> from Charles Stuart University in his home country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCraig has Aspergers and he is a little different from most people,\u201d Calvin Ayre, a venture capitalist who first made his bones with the controversial online gambling site Bodog.com and is an investor in nChain, where, according to CrunchBase, Wright is a founder and chief scientist. \u201cHe\u2019s a polymath who sleeps four hours a night and [in his sleep] listens to text books at four times the speed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the early 2000s, Wright was working for BDO, an accounting firm in Sydney, Australia, when he was assigned to do a security audit for a different online gambling operation. That\u2019s when he met the gambling site\u2019s chief <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> officer, Stefan Matthews.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignleft is-style-default\">\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf he\u2019s had a stressful day and needs to unwind, he reads a f\u2013king text book. In January 2009 [someone posing as Nakamoto] launched the Bitcoin code.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCraig and Dave [Kleiman] first communicated in 2007 or 2008,\u201d he recalled. \u201cCraig told me that David helped him to edit the white paper. Craig has a problem with staying within word lengths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kleiman was a soldier turned cop turned computer forensics expert. While working as an officer for the Palm Beach County Sheriff\u2019s Office, he was paralyzed in a 1995 motorcycle accident that left him confined to a wheelchair. <\/p>\n<p>According to court documents, \u201cDave and Craig met in an online cryptography forum in 2003. Both men had a longtime interest in cyber security, digital forensics and the future of money.\u201d They maintained correspondence over the years and \u201cin 2007 they coauthored a paper on the mechanics of overwriting hard drive data.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>One year later, the court document confirms, Wright asked Kleiman to help edit the white paper. Then, it maintains, \u201cfor the next few months, Craig and Dave worked to get Bitcoin operational.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The court document states that on Thanksgiving Day in 2009, Dave told his brother Ira \u201che was creating \u2018digital money\u2019 with a wealthy foreign man, i.e., Craig.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kleiman\u2019s ex-wife Maria Frechette is not surprised if this was the case. \u201cI don\u2019t know if he invented [Bitcoin],\u201d she told The Post. \u201cBut he was no dummy.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/bitcoin-3-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"A representation of the virtual cryptocurrency bitcoin\" class=\"wp-image-20207280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/bitcoin-3-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/bitcoin-3-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/bitcoin-3-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>As of Nov. 19, 2021, a single Bitcoin was valued at $58,000.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Reuters<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>During the first several years of Bitcoin, Nakamoto communicated regularly with a small group of crypto obsessives, via email and various message boards, but never on the telephone or in person.<\/p>\n<p>Then, on April 26, 2011, Nakamoto disappeared \u2014\u00a0posting a farewell message to the community that concluded, \u201cI\u2019ve moved on to other things\u201d \u2014\u00a0and has not been definitively heard from since.<\/p>\n<p>Things were quiet for the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>Wright had been keeping his alleged Satoshi identity on the down-low until December 2015. That\u2019s when <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2015\/12\/bitcoins-creator-satoshi-nakamoto-is-probably-this-unknown-australian-genius\/\">Wired<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/heres-all-the-evidence-that-craig-wright-invented-bitco-1747059371\">Gizmodo<\/a> outed him. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had been sending Craig emails for weeks and wanted to do an interview with him,\u201d Matthews said. \u201cThe advice was for Craig to do nothing because no one will break the story without Craig corroborating what they say. Of course that was wrong advice and they both did. Wright vowed to cash out some of Satoshi\u2019s coins in order to prove that he was Satoshi. Then he backed out with a claim, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/op-ed-how-many-wrongs-make-wright\">according to Bitcoin magazine<\/a> , that the transaction could reveal an early \u201csecurity flaw \u2026 that would make it risky for him to move Bitcoin, exposing him to exploitation or theft.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believed that I could put the years of anonymity and hiding behind me. But as the events of this week unfolded and I prepared to publish the proof of access to the earliest keys, I broke,\u201d he wrote in an online post. \u201cI do not have the courage. I cannot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soon after, Matthews reached out to Gavin Andresen. The Massachusetts-based software developer became the \u201ccore maintainer\u201d of Bitcoin\u2019s open-source code \u2014\u00a0hand-selected by Nakamoto, though they never met \u2014  when the founder reportedly left the project in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Andresen is well versed in the workings of Bitcoin: Records of mined coins are stored in blocks on the so-called blockchain, a digital ledger that keeps track of freshly mined coins. At first, Andresen was skeptical, but, as he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/gavinandresen.ninja\/satoshi\">wrote on his website<\/a>, \u201cAn initial email conversation convinced me that there was a very good chance he was the same person [i.e., Satoshi] I\u2019d communicated with in 2010 and early 2011.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Convinced, Andresen took Matthews up on his offer. Upon landing in London, Andresen told The Post, \u201cI went to the basement of a hotel. Craig and I compiled code and did a whole bunch of geeky things. Then Craig signed a [unique] message \u2014 I think it may have been \u2018Gavin\u2019s favorite number is 11\u2019 \u2014 in a block that Satoshi created. He had to have the private key to do it. That made me think Craig was Satoshi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Andresen was so convinced that he posted as much on his website: \u201cI believe Craig Steven Wright is the person who invented Bitcoin \u2026 During our meeting, I saw the brilliant, opinionated, focused, generous \u2014 and privacy-seeking \u2014 person that matches the Satoshi I worked with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His opinion has since changed. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow,\u201d Andresen told The Post, \u201cI have my doubts. It\u2019s possible that Satoshi got hacked and lost the key. It\u2019s possible I was fooled \u2014 I was jet-lagged.
