emergency contacts to your iPhone so that they can be easily contacted (or contact you) in urgent situations. It takes five minutes to set up but it could be one of the most important settings on your device.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_an_Emergency_Contact\"><\/span>What Is an Emergency Contact?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>An emergency contact is a contact that exists inside of your address book that has a few additional privileges compared to your other contacts.<\/p>\n<p>There are two reasons to set up an emergency contact on your iPhone. The first is so that they <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear as a next of kin on your Medical ID. This is accessible by strangers from your lock screen and contains information like your name, allergies, blood type, and (once set up) people who should be contacted in the event of an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>You can access your Medical ID by pressing and holding the power and volume up or down buttons until the \u201cMedical ID\u201d slider appears. You can also access it via the \u201cEmergency\u201d button on the passcode screen, or by holding the side button (not the digital crown) on an Apple Watch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-768991\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/med_id.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Medical ID on iPhone\" width=\"650\" height=\"522\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If you get into a situation where someone may want to contact an emergency contact they can easily do so from this screen without having to unlock your device.<\/p>\n<p>The second reason to add emergency contacts is so that these contacts receive a message whenever you use your device\u2019s \u201cEmergency SOS\u201d function. This is accessed by pressing and holding the power button and volume button on an iPhone, then sliding \u201cEmergency SOS\u201d or by pressing and holding the side button on an Apple Watch.<\/p>\n<p>You can also elect to bypass your device\u2019s silent mode settings to allow a contact to sound an audible alert on your device regardless of your settings. You can do this for any contact on your iPhone whether or not they are set as an emergency contact or not.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Add_an_Emergency_Contact_on_Your_iPhone\"><\/span>How to Add an Emergency Contact on Your iPhone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can set an emergency contact via a contact card or using the Health app on your iPhone.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Nominate_an_Emergency_Contact_Using_a_Contact_Card\"><\/span>Nominate an Emergency Contact Using a Contact Card<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Launch the Phone app and tap on the Contacts tab, then select a contact.
