The issue is coming to a head because Beauce MP <strong>Richard Lehoux <\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/politics\/conservative-mp-richard-lehoux-tests-positive-for-covid-19-party-says-1.5674825\">tested positive<\/a> for COVID-19 after attending a caucus meeting with his colleagues, an unknown number of whom are not vaccinated. Government House Leader <strong>Mark Holland<\/strong> wants the House to verify medical exemptions issued to Tories, while\u00a0<strong>Erin O\u2019Toole<\/strong> is preparing to challenge a mandate on the Hill.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>O\u2019Toole has said his party intends to challenge a rule imposed by the board of internal economy, the all-party governing body of the House of Commons, requiring anyone entering the Commons precinct to be fully vaccinated. Given the Conservatives\u2019 mixed views on vaccination, Holland suggested the party can\u2019t be trusted to police its MPs who claim a medical exemption. \u201cI\u2019m deeply uncomfortable with their circumstance,\u201d Holland said in an interview Sunday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Wheeling, dealing:<\/strong> Holland <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-liberals-open-to-deal-making-as-mps-gather-in-house-of-commons-for-the\/?cmpid=rss&amp;utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">told<\/a> the <em>Globe<\/em> that he is seeking to cut deals with other parties to get the government\u2019s agenda through the House.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One of the Liberals\u2019 top legislative priorities is to obtain <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval for an October government announcement that scaled back pandemic wage and rent supports for businesses while extending the duration of the benefits for the hardest hit companies. The government also announced at the time that it was ending the Canada Recovery Benefit pandemic-relief program \u2026\u00a0<strong>Holland<\/strong> told <em>The Globe and Mail<\/em> he\u2019s continuing to talk with other parties to find agreement on how the new Parliament will function. Mr. Holland is seeking a long-term deal on practical issues, such as continuing to allow \u201chybrid\u201d meetings, in which MPs can participate either in person or remotely via video link. He is also seeking to determine what parts of the government\u2019s policy agenda other parties may support.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Affordability:<\/strong> MPs would be wise to focus their efforts on the rising cost of living, according to a new poll from Ipsos, which found concerns about rising prices outranks issues like the\u00a0COVID-19 pandemic, health\u00a0care and housing as Canadians\u2019 top concern, Global <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/8389601\/parliament-returns-affordability-cost-of-living-ipsos\/\">reports<\/a>.\u201cThey\u2019re really focused on what\u2019s going on in their own homes and what\u2019s happening in their own lives, particularly relative to their own personal prosperity,\u201d said Ipsos CEO\u00a0<strong>Darrell Bricker<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaker first:<\/strong> MPs will elect a Speaker today, CBC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/opening-parliament-traditions-speaker-1.6255338?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar\">reports<\/a>, and listen to <strong>Mary Simon<\/strong> read the Throne speech tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kenney upbeat:<\/strong> <strong>Jason Kenney<\/strong> is feeling confident after a weekend UCP convention, where he received little resistance, CP <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalnewswatch.com\/2021\/11\/21\/kenney-more-confident-in-his-leadership-following-united-conservative-party-meeting-2\/#.YZsNiPHMLFt\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jean on the scene:<\/strong> The<em> Globe<\/em>\u2018s Kelly Cryderman reports that although Kenney was not confronted directly, not everyone is united behind him.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text ep-1 font-pratt\">Despite the lack of open defiance, divisions in the UCP, and potential challenges to Mr. Kenney\u2019s leadership, were still a key feature of the convention. In conversations on the sidelines, some members and MLAs maintained the Premier lacks introspection on issues of trust, and they criticized his leadership style, which they described as top-down. At least two potential leadership challengers roamed the convention halls at the in-person gathering at a casino hotel on Calgary\u2019s western city limits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text ep-1 font-pratt\">Former Wildrose party leader <strong>Brian Jean<\/strong>, a consummate political rival to Mr. Kenney who lost the UCP leadership contest to him in 2017, is seeking the party\u2019s nomination in Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche. He made no bones about his intention to some day seek the leadership of the party. \u201cIf the Premier takes this party forward into the next election, we\u2019re going to lose.
