Five marchers died, and scores were injured \u2014 several critically.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nobody knows what was going through Brooks\u2019 mind as he turned into the parade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What matters now \u2014 apart, of course, from Waukesha\u2019s unfolding, unfathomable human tragedy \u2014 is that Darrell E. To pay no meaningful attention to actual victims \u2014 who overwhelmingly are black themselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And to hang responsibility for rampant illegality on the nation\u2019s criminal codes, on its prisons \u2014 and, ultimately, on its police.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a nutshell, abusive cops and \u201cmass incarceration\u201d are the problem. Bail for a bail-jumper? A fellow whose violent criminal history extends back to 1999, when he was 17? Well, yes. Thank the so-called decarceration movement \u2014 the effort to keep criminals on the streets because jail cells are bad for them. Or something.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The local DA conceded Monday that Brooks\u2019 bail had been \u201cin<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriately low in light of the pending charges against\u201d him \u2014 especially given his \u201cextensive criminal history.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Easy for the DA to say, after the fact. But it\u2019s not just a single city in Wisconsin that\u2019s been put to risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>America\u2019s streets, New York\u2019s in particular, are filled with people who by deed and history belong behind bars.
