\n A former US Marine was sentenced Thursday to 9 years in prison in Russia for attacking two Moscow cops who arrested him after he got black-out drunk at a party.<\/span><\/p>\n

University of North Texas student Trevor Reed, 28, insisted that he got so tanked last August that he has \u201cno memory of anything,\u201d according to a <\/span>website that campaigned for his freedom<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTrevor was encouraged to drink a large amount of Vodka and app<\/a>arently became inebriated,\u201d the site said, hinting that he may have also been given \u201cother substances without his knowledge.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe has no memory of the evening past drinking vodka and being asked to toast many times,\u201d the Free Trevor Reed site said of the former Marine who was in Moscow studying Russian and to be with his girlfriend.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, he was handed the hefty sentence in a Russian court after being found guilty of endangering the lives of two police officers.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was accused of grabbing the arm of a cop driving the squad car after his arrest, causing it to swerve into other lanes, as well as elbowing an officer in the back with him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reed\u2019s defense called the charge against him fraudulent.<\/span><\/p>\n

His legal team said he should not have been detained in the first place and that the officers had changed their testimony throughout the trial.<\/span><\/p>\n

The judge said Reed had caused \u201cmental and physical damage\u201d to the police officers \u2014 while Reed condemned the verdict as \u201cpolitical,\u201d according to Agence France-Presse.<\/span><\/p>\n
