\n Mayor Bill de Blasio is facing an angry uprising from his staff over his handling of the George Floyd protests \u2014 making him the target of a separate rally planned for Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs current & former @nycgov employees, we are outraged by the escalation, violent misconduct & civil rights violations by the NYPD, and the Mayor\u2019s failure to protect our communities,\u201d the New York City Workers for Justice group said in announcing the protest.<\/p>\n

The group said it was \u201cheartbroken and outraged\u201d by \u201cinjustices\u201d by heavy-handed police during the demonstrations, as well as \u201cthe Mayor\u2019s failure to hold them accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group said it would demand \u201creal change\u201d with the protest at 9:30 a.m. Monday at City Hall Park.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of current and former staff also signed an open letter last week demanding action from their boss.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have joined together in writing this letter because we could not remain silent while the Administration we served allows the NYPD to turn our City into an occupied territory,\u201d the letter stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur former boss might not hear the cries for justice from Black and brown New Yorkers, but we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Much of the anger was sparked by Hizzoner\u2019s defense of police even amid widespread complaints of alleged brutality \u2014 claims he doubled down on again Sunday.<\/p>\n

He sent a \u201cthank you to the tens and thousands of members of the NYPD who protected that right to peaceful protest,\u201d praising their \u201cnoble cause\u201d and insisting the \u201cvast majority \u2026 do the right thing every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou did not see the NYPD using tear gas. You did not see the NYPD using rubber bullets,\u201d he insisted at a press briefing of the methods used against protests in other states.<\/p>\n

Instead, he once again sympathized with officers\u2019 precarious situation in dealing with \u201canarchists\u201d hellbent on violence.<\/p>\n

Staffers said they felt betrayed at the mayor\u2019s denials of events they witnessed first-hand at protests.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel as if I\u2019m being gaslighted by my own boss,\u201d one current employee told The City of how they \u201cpersonally experienced brutality\u201d that their boss then publicly denied ever happ<\/a>ened.<\/p>\n

The Mayor announced some changes Sunday, however, that addressed some of the group\u2019s gripes \u2014 including an end to the curfew.<\/p>\n

He also announced plans to shift some of the NYPD\u2019s funding to youth services \u2014 one of the demands made by rebel workers \u2014 albeit without much detail.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s talk numbers,\u201d the Workers for Justice group replied to his announcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe welcome the change of tone, but we need the details and we will not budge on our demands,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a victory, this is the beginning of the next phase of the struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n

They insisted, \u201cWe need justice and accountability. Don\u2019t settle for less.\u201d<\/p>\n
