You can insert a table of contents in Word from the headings used in your document, and then you can update it after making changes to the document. Here\u2019s how to do it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Add_a_Table_of_Contents\"><\/span>How to Add a Table of Contents<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Regardless of the size of your document, using a table of contents can direct the reader to exactly where they need to be. In addition to making the document more reader-friendly, a table of contents also makes it easier for the author to go back and add or remove content if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>By default, Word generates a table of contents using the first three built-in heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3).\u00a0To <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ly heading styles, select the particular style from the \u201cHome\u201d tab. You can either apply the heading styles to each section after you\u2019ve finished the document, or you can add them as you go.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve applied your heading styles, it\u2019s time to insert your table of contents. The first thing you need to do is put the cursor where you want the table of contents to appear. Each level represents a heading style in your document. So if you use the automatic table and you want sub-levels in your ToC, you will need to use heading 1 for level 1, heading 2 for level 2, and heading 3 for level 3.<\/p>\n<p>If you want your table of contents to go deeper than the top three heading styles, you can do that, too. To update your table of contents, select it, click \u201cUpdate Table\u201d on the pop-up menu that appears, and then choose whether you want to update only the page numbers or the entire table. Click \u201cOK\u201d to apply the changes.<\/p>\n<p>Your table of contents will now be updated.
