Busy Philipps is the first to admit her kids aren\u2019t exactly fans of any of her TV roles. In fact, at this point in their young lives, they have no interest in watching mom onscreen. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of showed them <\/span>Girls5eva <\/span><\/i>last year,\u201d the star recalls of her latest series<\/a>, recently renewed for a second season on Peacock<\/a>. \u201cI showed them some parts of it. Cricket was just like, \u2018You look really weird. And you\u2019re wearing way too much makeup. I don\u2019t like this at all.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018OK, I guess this is not for you.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBirdie loves <\/span>Brooklyn Nine-Nine<\/span><\/i> and<\/span> Community <\/span><\/i>and all these shows. I ask, \u2018Do you want to watch <\/span>Freaks and Geeks<\/span><\/i><\/a>? Do you want to watch <\/span>Cougar Town <\/span><\/i><\/a>or <\/span>Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/span><\/i>?\u201d Birdie is like, \u2018Why would I want to watch something my mom is on?\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On the surface, the reaction from the kids may come off as a blow \u2014 though Philipps can see where they are coming from. She adds, \u201cI mean, would you want to watch your mom making out with [Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/em> co-star] Josh Jackson? Probably not.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

While Philipps\u2019 offspring may not want to revisit Audrey and Pacey\u2019s romance on the beloved WB drama, many audiences do. It was 20 years ago when viewers were introduced to her character, Joey\u2019s [Katie Holmes] wild child roommate at Worthington University, in Season 5. For Philipps, the fandom of <\/span>Dawson\u2019s Creek <\/span><\/i>and the one-season wonder <\/span>Freaks and Geeks <\/span><\/i>remains strong thanks to streaming. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the pandemic, within the last year-and-a-half, a lot of younger generations found those shows. It\u2019s awesome,\u201d she notes. \u201cThat it can all exist in perpetuity. People continue to find it. In a way, you can say I\u2019m still 19 years old. So that\u2019s great I guess.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In the age of revivals and reboots, Philipps can see the creative potential of taking a trip<\/a> back \u2014 not necessarily to Capeside, but to Chippewa. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Freaks and Geeks<\/span><\/i>,\u201d she says of which show would make the most sense to revive. \u201cIt was set in 1980, which was about 20 years when we filmed it in 1999 to 2000. I feel like they can set a new version in the year 2000.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026I missed the Friends<\/em><\/a><\/span> <\/span><\/i>reunion. I think any of those shows would be amazing to go [back to for a reunion], especially because so many people are watching them now. It\u2019s always fun to see casts get together.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Philipps amassed a nice resume in the last two decades including a critically acclaimed turn as Laurie Keller on <\/span>Cougar Town<\/span><\/i> and hosting the sadly short-lived <\/span>Busy Tonight<\/span><\/i>. These days, <\/span>Girls5eva <\/span><\/i>has her busy, and she\u2019s loving it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are just a couple of episodes into filming Season 2. The show is ridiculous and so fun and the music is so good,\u201d she says. We\u2019re all just happ<\/a>y to be there. It\u2019s the best job I\u2019ve had in my entire life.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

She also finds joy hanging with the family and working on passion projects like writing and sharing a little conversation with pal Caissie St. Onge on the Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best<\/em> podcast. <\/span><\/p>\n

As for the future? \u201cIf Tina Fey just continues to ask me to be in things I\u2019ll show up for anything she wants me to be in,\u201d she quips. \u201cI do a lot of different things. I find the right thing always finds you.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
