Here are their poems about 2022.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"And_orange_became_just_another_colour\"><\/span>And orange became just another colour<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>the tears had dried<br \/>the mourning became a memory<br \/>the marches became tedious<br \/>the numbers were filed away<br \/>no one remembered why<br \/>or where they were lost<br \/>gathering dust<br \/>like little bodies<br \/>the little flags that fluttered in the wind<br \/>became tattered<br \/>a t-shirt tossed in the recycle bin<br \/>and orange became just another colour<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014Duncan Mercredi, Winnipeg, MN<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"To_2022_the_future\"><\/span>To 2022, the future<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The poets are updating your wiring with more focus<br \/>on the soft underbelly of the anxious hours.<br \/>This is where our tender most often lose their way.<br \/>The challenge is how we\u2019re all feeling tender, how we\u2019re all losing our way. We brew phrases like we\u2019re in this together for the ink<\/p>\n<p>at the heart of its company. We\u2019re tempted to drink this ink,<br \/>for the relief it brings but the task at hand has lost its antlers<br \/>and there\u2019s no path in the ash. We brew the ink, let it cool.<br \/>A few of us write while the ink is hot. We\u2019re the most terrified and have taken to stitching words like radiance and collective<br \/>to the lips of your minutes. The plan is you\u2019ll breathe the spirit<br \/>of those words onto us. This is the heart of our practice, the belief that we can change something. And that you\u2019ll trust us.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014Sue Goyette, Halifax, N.S.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Long-range_forecast\"><\/span>Long-range forecast<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>walking into what lies ahead through fog<br \/>along the breakwater, I sense its bent<\/p>\n<p>granite finger blindly beckon, joggers<br \/>as they breeze past, light-footed, confident<\/p>\n<p>as I am not, the beacon at the end<br \/>too faint, with its bloodshot light, to cut through<\/p>\n<p>what may roll in next\u2014the low-hanging stench<br \/>of burnt inland trees, sudden heat, hail spewed<\/p>\n<p>by atmospheric rivers, drought, snowmelt<br \/>while it lasts urging higher the levels<\/p>\n<p>of troubled seas\u2014yet, somehow, I have built<br \/>in the stillborn haze of such upheaval<\/p>\n<p>a day-to-day, years-long walking practice<br \/>the boots I resole worn thin by witness<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014Jon Barton, Victoria, B.C.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It_was_the_land\"><\/span>It was the land<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>no one knew the evil men could do<br \/>behind closed doors<br \/>no one spoke of it<br \/>no one said sorry<br \/>and in the end<br \/>it was the land<br \/>the very land itself<br \/>that spoke<\/p>\n<p>it was the land<br \/>that carried the secrets<br \/>that knew the truth<br \/>that yielded a million sorrows<br \/>that stopped us like a thunderbolt<br \/>in the streets.<br \/>god forgive us<br \/>the whispers were true<\/p>\n<p>it was the land that spoke for thousands<br \/>denied a life. denied a family<br \/>denied a mother tongue<br \/>and as our grief-filled days<br \/>stretched out before us<br \/>like a blanket of fear<br \/>from the land of the Mi\u2019kmaq to Haida Gwaii<br \/>we were numb with disbelief<\/p>\n<p>for it was the land<br \/>the very land itself<br \/>that spoke to us in the darkness<br \/>in the sacred smoke of our ancestors<br \/>and in the voices of our children<br \/>who whispered on the wind<br \/>guiding us<br \/>showing us the way<\/p>\n<p>telling us<br \/>there will be a time<br \/>for coming together<br \/>as a nation. as a people. and as a family<br \/>to celebrate now<br \/>and lift our brothers and sisters<br \/>as never before<br \/>our tears are never far from the surface<\/p>\n<p>it always gets darker before the light comes back<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014pj johnson, Yukon Territory<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2022_A_logic_problem\"><\/span>2022: A logic problem<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Poorly-maintained vessels squawk<br \/>loudest, so do poorly-maintained minds<br \/>awash in seas of misinformation.<br \/>Viscosity of regulation is thin,<br \/>miracle of petroleum no longer<br \/>the answer. Government recommends<br \/>homework, but education departments forget<br \/>they eliminated the distasteful task<br \/>decades ago when kids refused, and<br \/>confused parents complained.<br \/>Now research is synonymous with faith<br \/>in plausible <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> scum clogging<br \/>phishy spam filters\u2014recycled repeatedly<br \/>until we lose the 2022 plot, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a><br \/>becomes de facto villain in a vocal idiocracy.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014Jordan Trethewey, Fredericton, N.B.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Through_a_glass_darkly\"><\/span>Through a glass darkly<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>What my crystal ball told me,<br \/>grumbling and swirling:<\/p>\n<p>The charred forests will reach up,<br \/>sway leafy arms to the sky.<\/p>\n<p>Salmon will crowd the falls,<br \/>tails lashing, blood running.<\/p>\n<p>Sea-birds will unoil<br \/>themselves, the beaches washed clean.<\/p>\n<p>Croesus \u2014and his ilk\u2014 call<br \/>stolen billions home from offshore.<\/p>\n<p>Each table will groan, laden<br \/>with bread, milk and honey.<\/p>\n<p>A chicken in every pot,<br \/>a shelter for every head.<\/p>\n<p>Bernier and his sack of poison<br \/>will vanish in a puff of smoke.<\/p>\n<p>Clear heads will prevail:<br \/>vaccines in every arm.<\/p>\n<p>Celeb babble and other baby talk<br \/>will\u2014poof!\u2014be gone from the airwaves.<\/p>\n<p>The Muses will sashay in,<br \/>the listeners all gladdened:<\/p>\n<p>No more dancing attendance<br \/>on truism, shibboleth, tiresome cliche.<\/p>\n<p>A buzzing, an electronic sizzling,<br \/>a hiss.
