Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay about the cinematic legacy of Tintin and Steven Spielberg\u2019s 2011 film The Adventures Of Tintin&lt;\/em&gt;&lt;em&gt;.&lt;\/em&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Despite being a global phenomenon, <strong><em>The Adventures of T<\/em><em>intin<\/em><\/strong> never really caught on stateside. Created by Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi, who wrote under the pen name <strong>Herg\u00e9<\/strong>, the boy scout\u2019s adventures have had been published in more than 70 languages with comic book sales exceeding 200 million copies. And you have to wonder if the (tempered) failure of\u00a0<em>Tintin\u00a0<\/em>winning over yanks has to do with the lack of a definitive <em>Tintin\u00a0<\/em>film.<\/p>\n<p>Herg\u00e9 was always guarded when it came to cinematic adaptations of his work and with good reason, it turns out. There have been six <em>Tintin\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> in total: one stop-motion production, two live-action films, two films that used traditional animation, and then, after forty-year hiatus, 2011\u2019s <strong><em>The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn<\/em><\/strong>. Directed by <strong>Steven Spielberg<\/strong>, who Herg\u00e9 personally considered to be the only man for the job, Spielberg teamed up with Peter Jackson\u2019s <strong>Weta Digital<\/strong> to create one of the few motion-capture 3D films to avoid barrelling into the uncanny valley. So what\u2019s with that 40-year gap?<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of wrinkles that make\u00a0<em>Tintin\u00a0<\/em>a difficult subject for adaptation. While Silent Cinema fan Herg\u00e9 himself considered his comics as \u201cmovies on paper,\u201d particularities integral to making <em>Tintin,\u00a0<\/em>well\u2026<em>Tintin<\/em>, have a habit of slipping through the cracks. The video essay below offers a thorough\u00a0look at why\u00a0<em>Tintin\u00a0<\/em>is such a tricky subject for adaptation, including the modern necessity of contending with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mironline.ca\/facing-our-favourites-what-tintin-can-teach-us-about-social-responsibility-and-cancel-culture\/\">the more uncomfortable aspects of Herg\u00e9\u2019s legacy<\/a> (including racial stereotypes and ethnocentricity).
