\n Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to a broadside from Bill Gates by tweeting\u00a0\u201cBilly G is not my lover,\u201d and \u201cThe rumor that Bill Gates & I are lovers is completely untrue.\u201d<\/p>\n

The late-Wednesday quip came after a Twitter<\/a> user alerted him to a CNBC interview in which the 64-year-old Microsoft co-founder took issue with Musk\u2019s attitude towards the coronavirus pandemic, which Musk called \u201cdumb\u201d in March.<\/p>\n

\u201cElon\u2019s positioning is to maintain a high level of outrageous comments,\u201d Gates said in the interview. \u201cHe\u2019s not much involved in vaccines. He makes a great electric car. His rockets work well, so he\u2019s allowed to say these things. I hope that he doesn\u2019t confuse areas he\u2019s not involved in too much.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pinned \u201cBilly G\u201d tweet on Musk\u2019s page, which has 37.2 million followers, is surrounded by musical notes, a reference to Michael Jackson\u2019s 1982 hit song \u201cBilly Jean\u201d.<\/p>\n

Musk has been outspoken about the pandemic, saying on multiple occasions \u2014 including on a podcast interview with Joe Rogan \u2014 that false positives and incorrectly attributed causes of death were blowing concern over the virus out of proportion.<\/p>\n

He railed against California health officials in May when Tesla\u2019s Fremont factory was forced to shut down its production line in May under the state\u2019s lockdown orders, eventually daring the state to arrest him if it tried to intervene in the plant\u2019s reopening.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time that Musk and Gates \u2014 the No. 8 and No. 2 richest men in the world, respectively, with a combined fortune of $183 billion \u2014 have butted heads.<\/p>\n

Gates earlier this year revealed that he had purchased his first electric car, a Porsche, adding that he felt consumers still need to \u201covercome that range anxiety\u201d in order for electric vehicles to hit the mainstream and help battle climate change.<\/p>\n
