\n It has always seemed like it would take a holiday miracle for Elf 2<\/em> to ever happ<\/a>en, as Will Ferrell has made it clear he\u2019s really not interested in returning as Buddy. If you ask his co-star Faizon Love, however, the potential sequel could do just fine without Ferrell back in the lead. In fact, Love suggests that a fresh direction might be exactly what something like Elf 2<\/em> needs.\n <\/p>\n

\n In the first Elf<\/em><\/strong>, Love played Wanda, the manager of the Gimbels store and the boss to Zooey Deschanel\u2019s Jovie. Following reports of Ferrell turning down a $29 million paycheck to make Elf 2<\/em>, Love spoke with TMZ about the situation. While he\u2019s surprised Ferrell would leave so much money on the table, Love also sees his refusal to return as a good thing. The actor explains that now is the perfect time to introduce a Black elf as he feels audiences will embrace this change in 2021.\n <\/p>\n

You had a Black president, you had an orange president, now it\u2019s time for a Black elf. I was surprised [Will Ferrell] he turned down that much money\u2026 If they would\u2019ve asked me to do it for some potato chips and $3500 [I\u2019d do it]. He turned down $29 million? Wow. \n Ferrell opened up recently about exactly why he didn\u2019t want to return for Elf 2<\/em>. According to the actor, he was very unimpressed after reading the screenplay they had in mind for the unmade sequel. He opined that the story was a retread of the first Elf <\/em>and would have let people down, and he didn\u2019t want to promote the sequel leading up to its release as if it was a good movie if he didn\u2019t feel that it was.\n <\/p>\n

\n That\u2019s an understandable enough explanation, and given the roles that would keep coming for Ferrell, he wasn\u2019t exactly strapped for cash either. Even so, Faizon Love questions this explanation, claiming that Ferrell even thought the first Elf<\/em> was \u201ctrash.\u201d Love also takes some shots at Ferrell\u2019s starring role in 2009\u2019s Land of the Lost<\/em>, a movie he accepted after Elf<\/em> which was a critically-panned box office bomb and Razzie Award winner. This has Love wondering how exactly Ferrell decides which scripts are worth his time.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe first one, he thought was trash. So, I don\u2019t know how he\u2019s reading his scripts, but I\u2019ve seen some questionable [movies<\/a> he\u2019s made]. You know the one with him and the dinosaur, Land of the Lost<\/em>, was that a great script? I don\u2019t know. If you look at Land of the Lost right now, [and say], \u2018This is a great script! Land of the Lost, this is gonna – wooo!’\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s always easy to look back in retrospect and realize which roles might have been mistakes. In any case, Elf<\/em> remains one of the most popular Christmas movies of all time, and it will likely remain that way for many years, with or without an Elf 2<\/em>.
