“#How Gibbs’ Absence Affects a Major Decision for Kasie (RECAP)<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for NCIS<\/em> Season 19 Episode 8 \u201cPeacekeeper.\u201d]<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mark Harmon\u2019s<\/a> last on-screen app<\/a>earance may have come in the fourth episode of NCIS<\/em><\/a> Season 19, but four episodes later, and his absence is very much felt \u2014 especially by forensic scientist Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover).<\/p>\n

For nine weeks, Kasie\u2019s been going to Krav Maga classes, a fact that she doesn\u2019t share until the case leads agents Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) and Alden Parker (Gary Cole) to the same gun salon she\u2019s attending. Yes, she\u2019s maybe<\/em> in the market for a gun, she admits to Knight. (We love their friendship, especially since it makes us think of Abby and Kate\u2019s in the early seasons.)<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been on her mind, she admits, since the serial-turned-contract-killer Paul Lemere (Jason Wiles) held her hostage in \u201cNearly Departed,\u201d which came after she and Brian Dietzen\u2019s<\/a> Dr. Jimmy Palmer were hostages in the diner in Season 17\u2019s \u201cBlarney,\u201d (Considering how serious both situations were and the circumstances surrounding them \u2014 plus the fact that not much time has passed between them and the nature of her job, which doesn\u2019t put her in danger all the time \u2014 this isn\u2019t too surprising.) She though that \u201cbrush with mortality\u201d didn\u2019t affect her, but it did. After hearing about the gun salon, she was curious, but having a gun on the nightstand, \u201cit\u2019s there to keep me safe, but maybe it just reminds me of what I\u2019m afraid of,\u201d she tells Knight.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s to Palmer that she opens up about why she\u2019s really considering buying a gun now. She does wonder WWGS (What Would Gibbs Say?). \u201cI think he would say take a breath, you can be conflicted while still shopping,\u201d he says. The medical examiner doesn\u2019t own a gun because of the bullets he\u2019s pulled from people over the years. Kasie\u2019s leaning towards Palmer\u2019s side, but she\u2019s afraid. \u201cBoth times I was saved by Gibbs, meaning it\u2019s on me when strike three happens,\u201d she explains. She was never worried before. Palmer suggests she just needs more time to heal.<\/p>\n

Kasie then turns to Parker for his perspective. He\u2019s never wished he didn\u2019t have a gun, but there are people he wishes didn\u2019t. Her uncle shot an intruder once and it haunted him for the rest of his life, she shares. She doesn\u2019t know how any of that will help her get back to normal.<\/p>\n

So what happens when Knight takes Kasie to the shooting range at the end of the episode? \u201cIt feels better than I thought it would,\u201d Kasie says, but she\u2019s not getting a gun. \u201cI\u2019m cool. I wouldn\u2019t mind coming back to blow off steam every now and then.\u201d<\/p>\n
