\nNew insight is coming to light about why Prince Charles<\/strong> allegedly made those<\/em> comments about the color of Prince Harry<\/strong> and Meghan Markle<\/strong>\u2019s kids\u2019 skin color.<\/p>\n

As you\u2019ll recall, Harry and Meghan made the startling revelation that a relative had said such a thing during their explosive tell-all with Oprah Winfrey<\/strong> earlier this year. While they didn\u2019t name names, they did share that an unidentified family member had expressed \u201cconcerns\u201d and had \u201cconversations\u201d about Archie\u2019s skin color ahead of his birth in 2019. Off-camera, they were quick to confirm that person was not Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong> or the now late Prince Philip<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Many other family members found themselves in the hot seat as fans tried to determine who the \u201croyal racist\u201d could have been \u2014 and now author Christopher Andersen<\/strong> claims he knows it was Prince Charles.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Us Weekly<\/em> on Tuesday, the writer opened up about how he determined Charles had said the controversial comment, explaining:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was able to trace this back to a comment that was made by Prince Charles to [Duchess<\/strong>] Camilla<\/strong> on the day that the announcement of Harry and Meghan\u2019s engagement was made.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

FYI, that would have been November 27, 2017. According to what he learned via a \u201cwell-placed source,\u201d the comment wasn\u2019t intended to be offensive. Instead, he thinks it was a question posed \u201cfondly,\u201d Christopher added:<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what he did was casually turn to her like any grandparent to be would do and say, \u2018I wonder what their children will look like, hair color, eye, color, complexion.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As we previously reported, in Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan<\/em>, Andersen claimed the infamous conversation went something like:<\/p>\n

Prince Charles: \u201cI wonder what the children look like?\u201d<\/p>\n

Camilla: \u201cWell, absolutely gorgeous, I\u2019m certain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prince Charles: \u201cI mean, what do you think their children\u2019s complexion might be?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Continuing to support the idea that Charles never intended to start a family rift (even if he was hung up on the children\u2019s skin color), the William and Kate: A Royal Love Story<\/em> author mused:<\/p>\n

\u201cHe did it fondly, but the problem is it was taken misconstrued, contorted over a period of time by the bureaucrats and the palace \u2014 the people who [Princess<\/strong>] Diana<\/strong> used to call the men in gray \u2014 and they really weaponized that and turned it into something that was quite nasty by the time it reached Harry\u2019s ear.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But before you start giving the 73-year-old the benefit of the doubt, he and his oldest son, Prince William<\/strong>, supposedly complicated the matter more. Andersen insisted that Harry confronted his father and brother once word of the remark finally reached him. (It\u2019s unclear why William would get dragged into the situation unless there\u2019s more to the story like some insiders have suggested.)<\/p>\n

Rather than apologize or explain the situation, the men allegedly told the 37-year-old he was being \u201coversensitive\u201d and \u201coverreacting.\u201d The Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan<\/em> author continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cThat complicated what was already a very complicated situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ya, no s**t. They seem to have a knack for that\u2026<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Christopher also had a bone to pick with Charles and the palace, who released a statement about his claims when they first made headlines earlier this month. The statement, shared by Us<\/em>, called the story \u201cfiction\u201d and \u201cnot worth further comment.\u201d On that, the American journalist argued:<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish the palace would take care to read what the book actually said. The real fiction here is the denial. This is what the palace always does. There\u2019s a knee-jerk reaction is to say, \u2018None of it\u2019s true.\u2019 \u2026 In this particular case, clearly, they haven\u2019t read the book because if they did, they\u2019d see that, in a sense, it sort of softens the image of the royal family in terms of race.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The only time the royal family has truly acknowledged the racism claims \u2014 other than to just cast blame on others \u2014 was when Meghan and Harry\u2019s CBS<\/strong> special first aired in March, ahead of the birth of their second child, Lilibet<\/strong>. They called the accusations \u201cconcerning,\u201d adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But those conversations don\u2019t seem to be going very well \u2014 if they\u2019re happ<\/a>ening at all \u2014 so far.<\/p>\n
