“#CNN indefinitely suspends Chris Cuomo over damning AG documents<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n

CNN \u201cindefinitely\u201d suspended embattled host Chris Cuomo over revelations regarding his secret role in trying to defend his brother, then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, from the sexual harassment allegations that forced him from office, the network said Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The move came a day after state Attorney General<\/a> Letitia James released a trove of subpoenaed records that include texts showing the \u201cCuomo Prime Time\u201d host agreed to contact news<\/a> industry \u201csources\u201d for advance information on reports regarding his older brother.<\/p>\n

In a prepared statement, CNN said<\/a> the material \u201cshed new light on Chris Cuomo\u2019s involvement in his brother\u2019s defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions,\u201d the network said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother\u2019s staff, he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly. But we also app<\/a>reciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second.\u201d<\/p>\n

Text messages and Cuomo\u2019s own testimony to state AG investigators, which were made public Monday, revealed the CNN star was asked by then-Gov. Cuomo\u2019s right -hand aide Melissa Derosa to find out if more women were coming forward with sexual misconduct charges as the governor\u2019s sex scandal was unfolding.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI would \u2014 when asked, I would reach out to sources, other journalists, to see if they had heard of anybody else coming out,\u201d Chris Cuomo stunningly said, according to the AG\u2019s transcript.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember Melissa asking me at some point that either they wanted to know if I knew or could find out if more were coming or that she had heard that one or maybe two more were coming and could I find out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

CNN noted in its brief statement announcing the benching: \u201cHowever, these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother\u2019s efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Employees of the left-leaning cable news channel told The Post earlier Tuesday that the network needed to finally fire Chris Cuomo.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHow does he still have a job at the network? He\u2019s not a journalist,\u201d one staffer said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Cuomo Prime Time\u2019 has the lowest ratings to date. The viewers no longer trust him. His reign at CNN has to end.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another said, \u201cChris Cuomo enabled a sexual predator, the former governor of New York. He needs to immedia<\/a>tely resign or CNN must fire him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes Chris Cuomo have any journalistic integrity? No.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

And Elisa Batista of the women\u2019s rights group UltraViolet also said Cuomo \u201cshould be fired immediately\u201d for \u201cusing his position at CNN to seek information on the accusers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis a severe breach of journalistic ethics,\u201d Batista said in a prepared statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCNN should immediately sever ties with Chris Cuomo. Anything less is unacceptable, and further harms survivors of sexual abuse.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
