{"id":374830,"date":"2021-12-01T03:00:25","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T00:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/concerning-asteroid-will-break-into-earths-orbit-in-a-week-nasa\/"},"modified":"2021-12-01T03:00:25","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T00:00:25","slug":"concerning-asteroid-will-break-into-earths-orbit-in-a-week-nasa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/concerning-asteroid-will-break-into-earths-orbit-in-a-week-nasa\/","title":{"rendered":"#&#8217;Concerning&#8217; asteroid will break into Earth&#8217;s orbit in a week: NASA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#&#8217;Concerning&#8217; asteroid will break into Earth&#8217;s orbit in a week: NASA<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>NASA has warned that a giant asteroid bigger than the Eiffel Tower will break into Earth\u2019s orbit in just over a week.<\/p>\n<p>The huge 1,082 foot space rock is heading our way and should skim past us on December 11.<\/p>\n<p>Nasa has its eye on Asteroid 4660 Nereus because it\u2019s well over 492 foot long and will come within 4.6 million miles of Earth.<\/p>\n<p>That puts it in the \u201cpotentially hazardous\u201d category.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no need to panic though as Asteroid Nereus isn\u2019t expected to impact Earth.<\/p>\n<p>If all goes well it should shoot past our planet at 14,700 miles per hour.<\/p>\n<p>Nasa is expecting the space rock to stay 2.4 million miles away from us.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s about 10 times the distance between Earth and the Moon.<\/p>\n<p>That may seem pretty far away but it\u2019s actually close as near-Earth asteroids go.<\/p>\n<p>Nasa considers anything passing within 120 million miles of Earth a Near-Earth Object (NEO).<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of NEOs are tracked by scientists to monitor whether they\u2019re on a collision course with our planet.<\/p>\n<p>Nasa has a whole table full of them that it constantly updates.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Asteroid.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Asteroid \/ meteorite from outer space, falling toward planet Earth, dramatic science fiction scene\" class=\"wp-image-20324075\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Asteroid.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Asteroid.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/11\/Asteroid.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>NASA estimates the asteroid will <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roximately be 2.4 million miles away from Earth.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images\/iStockphoto<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Any fast-moving space object that comes within 4.65 million miles is considered to be \u201cpotentially hazardous\u201d by cautious space organizations.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>One small change to their trajectories could spell disaster for Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Asteroid Nereus was first spotted in 1982 by astronomer Eleanor Helin.<\/p>\n<p>It passes by Earth fairly frequently so Nasa and the Japanese space agency (JAXA) once considered \u2018punching\u2019 it off course with the Hayabusa spacecraft.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the space agencies have settled to target Asteroid 25143 Itokawa as part of their Double Asteroid Redirection Test.<\/p>\n<p>In other <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>, Nasa has plans to put a nuclear power plant on the Moon within this decade.<\/p>\n<p>Android users are being warned to update their phone\u2019s privacy settings after a new update could leave their devices vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>And, scientists are using the winds on Mars to map out the first complete picture of how it was formed three billion years ago.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
