\n Some workers in the travel<\/a> industry don\u2019t believe they are adequately protected by the current rules and guidelines.<\/p>\n

An unnamed TSA agent in Chicago recently spoke with a local news outlet about the current situation airport workers are dealing with. According to the agent, unsafe interactions with travelers put them at a higher risk of catching the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The anonymous TSA agent spoke with CBS 2 in Chicago. The news outlet\u2019s nearest major airport, O\u2019Hare International, has reportedly taken an economic hit during the pandemic and many airlines are app<\/a>arently offering extremely discounted tickets for trips.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s only encouraging those people who aren\u2019t social<\/a>ly responsible to go out and travel,\u201d the unnamed agent told the news outlet.<\/p>\n

The agent described how the job puts workers at risk, explaining, \u201cWe\u2019re to screen (passengers). We\u2019re to pat them down \u2013 hand-to-body contact, absolutely no social distancing \u2013 and they don\u2019t have to wear a face mask.\u201d<\/p>\n

The unnamed worker continued, \u201cIt only takes one person with one droplet coming through the checkpoint to make it go rampant again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The city of Chicago and the state of Illinois have both instituted mask mandates, but they apparently aren\u2019t always enforced in the airport.<\/p>\n

The agent reports asking people to cover their faces, but \u201cI\u2019ve had supervisors, and this is truth, tell me, stop me and say, \u2018You know you\u2019re not supposed to do that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

According to CBS 2, security checkpoints are under the jurisdiction of the TSA, which follows federal regulations as opposed to state or local. Currently, on the TSA website, the agency encourages passengers to wear masks during screenings, as well as practice good hygiene and social distancing.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
