{"id":375763,"date":"2021-12-03T05:08:55","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T02:08:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nypd-program-gifts-south-carolina-mom-sons-trip-to-nyc\/"},"modified":"2021-12-03T05:08:55","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T02:08:55","slug":"nypd-program-gifts-south-carolina-mom-sons-trip-to-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nypd-program-gifts-south-carolina-mom-sons-trip-to-nyc\/","title":{"rendered":"#NYPD program gifts South Carolina mom, sons trip to NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NYPD program gifts South Carolina mom, sons <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> to NYC<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>He asked for a patch or a pin from the NYPD \u2013 he\u2019s getting a real-life trip instead.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas came early for a South Carolina mom and her two sons, who will take in the sights of New York City this weekend courtesy of the NYPD With Arms Wide Open program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t thank the cops in New York enough for giving my babies something I could never,\u201d Daniel\u2019s mother, Betty May Pound, of Gaston, told The Post Wednesday, crying. \u201cThank you is not enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The special four-day trip came together after Betty May Pound took to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> to ask police departments across the country for patches and pins for her son, Daniel, who has Down syndrome and has wanted to be a cop since age 5.<\/p>\n<p>Pound was gathering the memorabilia from the departments as a gift for her son\u2019s 17th birthday on Dec. 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have received patches from every state except Mississippi and Alaska,\u201d she said. \u201cSome places have sent uniforms and tactical vests.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"682\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3688.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=682\" alt=\"Daniel with ESU\" class=\"wp-image-20355465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3688.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1023 1023w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3688.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=682 682w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3688.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=341 341w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3688.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\"\/><figcaption>Daniel has wanted to be a cop since age 5.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But the NYPD trumped that, inviting Daniel and his younger brother Jason \u2013 who has obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and oppositional defiant disorder \u2013 to visit the Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we heard her story we knew we had to do something,\u201d said NYPD Officer Merritt Riley. <\/p>\n<p>Riley is the chairman of NYPD With Arms Wide Open, a support group he founded in 2013 with retired Det. Daniel Sprague to assist the families of NYPD officers with special needs children.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"682\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3690.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=682\" alt=\"family with Rockettes\" class=\"wp-image-20355481\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3690.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1023 1023w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3690.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=682 682w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3690.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=341 341w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/IMG_3690.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\"\/><figcaption>The South Carolina family met The Rockettes during their NYC trip.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Both officers have special needs kids themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The group \u2013 which is made up of officers of all ranks, active and retired \u2014 helps set families up with doctors, lawyers, therapists, physical therapy and equipment that isn\u2019t covered by insurance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t want families to feel isolated and all alone during their neediest times,\u201d Riley said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Pound and her sons visited the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree Thursday evening and will meet with the horseback officers of the NYPD\u2019s Mounted Unit on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was the coolest thing ever. It was amazing,\u201d said Pound. \u201cThat was the biggest tree we ever saw, so many lights. Daniel was the hit of the crowd-he hugged every cop and the Rockettes came over and took a picture with us.
