But now, scammers are sending realistic-looking text messages (like the one above) posing as shipping and package delivery companies such as FedEx.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_update\"><p><strong>Update, 12\/2\/21:<\/strong> In the time since originally publishing, a new package delivery text message scam has been making the rounds. The main difference between the latest SMS phishing attempt and the one seen above is the addition of the recipient\u2019s first name. The scammer(s) likely believes that adding personal information might make the message <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear more official, increasing the odds that the link is opened.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>By taking a step back and analyzing the text message, it\u2019s easy to spot that this is a scam. First, the phone number appears to be from someone\u2019s personal number. Second, the sender never identifies themselves or the\u00a0courier. Third, the link\u2019s URL looks suspicious and unofficial. And, finally, the text message\u2019s grammar doesn\u2019t read as if it\u2019s from a legitimate source.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>How to Spot a Text Message Scam<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As we\u2019ve detailed below, it\u2019s never safe to tap or click on links that come from senders that you aren\u2019t familiar with. As the recipient of one such attack, we decided to open the link and see what exactly is being shared. We\u00a0<strong>DO NOT<\/strong> recommend you open the message or click on any links. Instead, you should im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely block the sender and delete the message.<\/p>\n<p>After you click on the link, you\u2019re taken to an obviously-fake Amazon listing and asked to take a customer satisfaction survey. As a thank you for answering some questions, you\u2019re given the opportunity to claim an \u201cexpensive\u201d product for free as a reward.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-511095\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/fake-spam-fedex-link-survey-and-claim-reward.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Fake Spam FedEx Link Survey and Claim Reward\" width=\"650\" height=\"650\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Now it\u2019s time to tell the spammer where you live and provide them with a credit card number. By agreeing to pay the small shipping fee, you\u2019re also signing up for a 14-day trial to the company that sells the scammy products. And if you do accidentally open the link, you should definitely never enter your credit card number or provide the site with personal information.<\/p>\n<p>Take a look at the below tweet if you think you\u2019re good at identifying fake and real shipping messages.
