This entry examines the recent Qui-Gon Jinn comments made by Shang-Chi\u2019s Simu Liu.&lt;\/em&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<hr\/>\n<p>You can tell a lot about a person by the Jedi they name as their favorite. If Yoda\u2019s your dude, you dig wisdom over stature. If Obi-Wan Kenobi is your fave, you <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>reciate human fallibility. If Anakin Skywalker is your champion of choice, uh\u2026we\u2019ll just steer clear of each other, okay?<\/p>\n<p>In his\u00a0recent <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=K1sPSpcpsVc\"><em>Hot Ones<\/em> appearance<\/a>, <strong>Simu Liu\u00a0<\/strong>emphatically stated that Qui-Gon Jinn is easily his favorite Jedi. Why? You gotta understand the chumps in charge during <em>Star Wars<\/em>: <em>The Phantom Menace:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis whole idea of the Jedi during the Old Republic, you look at those council scenes where everyone\u2019s so stuck-up. They\u2019re all just like, \u2018These are the rules, we don\u2019t ever break the rules,\u2019 and by the way, [that\u2019s] very hypocritical too, because the Jedi are supposed to not want power. They\u2019re like, \u2018We have no thirst for power,\u2019 and there\u2019s literally a council that oversees everything that\u2019s in the highest part of Coruscant.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Go back and watch that first prequel. It\u2019s soaked in dread for what\u2019s coming. The Empire is rising, and the Jedi are totally clueless about the evil pulling their strings. They\u2019re judgy as hell, quickly dismissing Qui-Gon Jinn\u2019s insistence that he found the Chosen One on some podunk backwater, or backdesert, planet.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Qui-Gon_Jinn_was_the_Smartest_Jedi_in_the_Room\"><\/span>Qui-Gon Jinn was the Smartest Jedi in the Room<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Qui-Gon doesn\u2019t back down. He hears the Jedi out, considers it, and shakes his head. They\u2019re all Masters, but so is he. Qui-Gon refuses to cater to their demands. He knows he\u2019s right. He won\u2019t let their wagging fingers stop him from affecting change in the galaxy.<\/p>\n<p>Liu only gets more fervent when recalling Qui-Gon\u2019s confrontation in the Jedi Temple. He can\u2019t let the discussion come to a quick resolution. Liu needs <em>Hot Ones<\/em>\u2018 <strong>Sean Evans<\/strong>, and anyone listening, to understand.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI just love that Qui-Gon is a bit of a maverick. He doesn\u2019t care. He\u2019s like, \u2018Sorry, I\u2019m gonna train this kid.\u2019 And ultimately, that kid is gonna grow up to become Darth Vader and overthrow the entire Republic, but still, you gotta admire the guy that can see through the hypocrisy of the Jedi Order. They think they\u2019re the good guys\u2014they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh yeah, we\u2019re so good,\u2019 but really were the instruments of their own demise, in a way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <em>Shang<\/em>\u2013<em>Chi<\/em> <em>and the Legend of the Ten Rings<\/em> star ain\u2019t wrong, and that\u2019s why <em>The Phantom Menace<\/em> is called <em>The Phantom Menace<\/em>. We all just forget about that sometimes.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Chosen_One_Fallacy\"><\/span>The Chosen One Fallacy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Jedi have magic powers. They got the cool laser swords. They make for some really cool action figures. But they fail miserably as protectors of the peace, and the entire galaxy pays the price for their seemingly willful blindness.<\/p>\n<p>Qui-Gon Jinn saw hope in Anakin Skywalker. And who knows what would have happened if Darth Maul hadn\u2019t impaled him through the chest? Obi-Wan Kenobi honored his Master by continuing the boy\u2019s education, but his ego got in the way.<\/p>\n<p>Like the others who sit on the Jedi Council, Kenobi couldn\u2019t imagine a scenario where they were wrong. He believed in his goodness. He believed in his interpretation of the Force. He could not see a future where the Sith sat on a throne built from their corpses.<\/p>\n<p>Qui-Gon Jinn didn\u2019t see the whole picture regarding Anakin Skywalker either. The kid wasn\u2019t the Chosen One. Nor was the kid\u2019s kid. We\u2019ve all seen and argued the merits of <em>The Last Jedi<\/em>. Luke Skywalker <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>ped up too. He believed his own hype, and it birthed another Dark Lord.<\/p>\n<p>So, does that mean Rey Skywalker is the Chosen One? Ugh, please. We gotta stop with the prophecy.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Geroge_Lucas_Erased_Star_Wars_Black_and_White_Morality\"><\/span>Geroge Lucas Erased Star Wars\u2019 Black and White Morality<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Qui-Gon Jinn was indeed a maverick. If he\u2019d lived beyond a single live-action appearance, maybe he would have seen the darkness bubbling within his student, or maybe he wouldn\u2019t. That\u2019s not the point <strong>George Lucas<\/strong> was going for in <em>The Phantom Menace<\/em>. The filmmaker sought to raze our arrogance.<\/p>\n<p>We fell so hard for <em>Star Wars<\/em> in 1977. The aliens, the ships, the weapons \u2013 we wrapped ourselves in the merchandise and its rather simple good versus evil narrative. <em>The Phantom Menace<\/em> muddies the franchise. By exploring Anakin Skywalker\u2019s fall and Darth Vader\u2019s rise, the knights in shining armor collect some severe tarnish.<\/p>\n<p>Lucas and <strong>Dave Filoni<\/strong> plunge further into this uncomfortable revelation with <em>The Clone Wars<\/em> animated series. Here they splash the Jedi\u2019s arrogance into the spotlight. No hero walks away with a staunch, unbending posture. They\u2019re all fools.<\/p>\n<p>Except maybe Ahsoka Tano. Ah yes, I\u2019m back on that kick.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Seeing_the_Horrendous_Humanity_within_Every_Jedi\"><\/span>Seeing the Horrendous Humanity within Every Jedi<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Anakin Skywalker\u2019s Padawan was the first to experience the Jedi\u2019s fallibility when they accused her of bombing their precious temple. If they could be wrong about such a crime, what else could they be wrong about? She walked away from the Order and became a Rebel.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m inclined to agree with Simu Liu when it comes to Qui-Gon Jinn. He wasn\u2019t without fault. He didn\u2019t read the tea leaves properly, but he knew that peace and democracy are fragile. Qui-Gon took nothing for granted. The fight is neverending. And he proved it when he gave his last breath for it.<\/p>\n<p>The real fantasy I can\u2019t shake is imagining how Qui-Gon and Ahsoka would interact. Their ability to see beyond the obvious would have caused all sorts of trouble for the Jedi as well as the Emperor. They would have stirred some good trouble.<\/p>\n<p>Simu Liu admiring Qui-Gon for his rebel tendencies is appealing. The actor recognizes the faults in his hero, and that\u2019s a definite step in the right direction. Humanity is a mess. Thinking otherwise \u2013 worshiping otherwise is a trap.<\/p>\n<p>Slapping posters of Luke Skywalker on your wall is an invitation to disappointment. That\u2019s why everyone got so damn mad when we caught him sucking blue milk on Ahch-To.
