\n Congressional circus: The Anti-Barr Show<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Tuesday\u2019s House Judiciary Committee hearing, Democrats asked questions that \u201cheaped scorn\u201d on Attorney General William Barr \u2014 and then, The Federalist\u2019s David Marcus eyerolls, \u201crefused to allow Barr to answer.\u201d If members really thought Barr had made mistakes or false statements, they would have made him \u201canswer hard questions,\u201d but they didn\u2019t \u2014 because \u201che did nothing wrong and could explain that.\u201d Thus, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) \u201cengaged in a long rant\u201d about federal forces and then \u201csimply talked over\u201d Barr when he \u201ctried to explain the situation.\u201d The hearing\u2019s point wasn\u2019t to question the attorney general: It was about \u201cspeechifying and silencing\u201d him. It all adds up to a \u201csick reality show pretending to be governance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: America on the Brink<\/strong><\/p>\n

The establishment media<\/a>\u2019s \u201ccharacterization of demonstrations that have routinely turned into looting and rioting\u201d as \u201cmostly peaceful\u201d should \u201cfrighten all Americans,\u201d argues Creators columnist Ben Shapiro. The same people cheering on violent Black Lives Matter protesters blasted nonviolent anti-lockdown protesters as dangerous, because \u201cmany of our cultural elites are fine with violence\u201d \u2014 as long as they agree with its goals. Thus they will \u201cpat the violent vanguard of revolution on the head, content that they will not pay the price,\u201d and maintain that those who \u201ccrave law and order stand for regressive autocracy.\u201d That attitude is how \u201cthe thin veneer of civilization disintegrates\u201d and \u201cdemocracies die.\u201d And so \u201cAmerica draws closer to the brink.\u201d<\/p>\n

Media watch: When Black Lives Don\u2019t Matter<\/strong><\/p>\n

An ABC News<\/a> tweet \u2014 \u201cProtesters in California set fire to a courthouse, damaged a police station and assaulted officers after a peaceful demonstration intensified\u201d \u2014 was \u201cbetter than any satire as an illustration of the corporate media\u2019s biases,\u201d snarks Daniel McCarthy at Spectator USA. Liberal elites have a \u201cconscience<\/a>-free outlook\u201d on \u201cmayhem and murder in the streets,\u201d which is nothing next to \u201cthe ideological and political struggle.\u201d They are \u201cexquisitely sensitive to the correct formulary use of language, even as they neglect the lives of actual black people who are murdered by criminals every day in America\u2019s cities.\u201d It\u2019s a \u201cbitter\u201d irony: \u201cCapitalizing the word \u2018black\u2019 is not going to save a single black child from a drug dealer\u2019s bullet.\u201d But \u201cdefunding, demoralizing and abolishing the police\u201d will certainly \u201cresult in more black lives being lost to crime.\u201d<\/p>\n

Campaign desk: The Crusade Against Kamala<\/strong><\/p>\n

A \u201cdisgruntled group of at least a dozen\u201d of Joe Biden\u2019s closest allies are \u201cwaging a campaign to stop\u201d Kamala Harris from becoming the ex-veep\u2019s running mate, reports CNBC\u2019s Brian Schwartz. \u201cSome remain bitter about her attacks on Biden during primary \u00addebates last year,\u201d about which she app<\/a>ears \u201cto have no remorse.\u201d Others \u201cargue that she\u2019s too ambitious,\u201d with one saying, \u201cShe would be running for president the day of the inauguration.\u201d Yet the California lawmaker \u201cstill appears to be in the top tier of candidates for the job,\u201d with the \u00adAssociated Press even capturing a picture of Biden holding notes signaling his \u201cdecision to stand with Harris.\u201d<\/p>\n

Policy pointers: The Wisdom of James Gattuso<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Technology<\/a> Liberation Front, Adam Thierer expresses his gratitude to the late James Gattuso, a Washington policy hand who spent much of his career at the Heritage Foundation: \u201cThe most important thing I learned from working with James was how to properly conduct myself as an analyst and a human being.\u201d Above all, he treated everyone \u201cwith enormous respect, even when he violently disagreed with them. He listened carefully, digested arguments and addressed them with a cool tenor, but also a powerful wit.\u201d Hence No. 2 of Gattuso\u2019s \u201c10 Rules for Policy Analysis\u201d: \u201cDon\u2019t assume the other guy is evil. He may be but will be on your side later.\u201d Notes Thierer: \u201cMany young people in the world of public policy \u2026 tend to look at their opponents as nefarious-minded dimwits who are without hope or a moral compass. \u2026 James taught me early on to avoid falling into this trap.\u201d<\/p>\n
