\n Disney\u2019s Encanto<\/em><\/strong> kept its number one spot at the box office this weekend. The latest from Walt Disney Animation Studios brought in $12.7 million, which was more than enough to take the top spot. As of this writing, Encanto<\/em> has earned just over $116 million globally since debuting in theaters last weekend. The box office as a whole is down, continuing the yearly trend of after the long Thanksgiving weekend, though an uptick will come the weekend after next, courtesy of Sony and Marvel Studios.

\n Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/em> opens in theaters on December 17th and analysts are expecting a major turnout. The highly anticipated sequel broke first-day ticket presale records for the pandemic era, and it will be shown strictly in theaters, bypassing Disney+. Hardcore Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have been looking forward to seeing how Tom Holland\u2019s Peter Parker will get out of the mess Mysterio created in Spider-Man: Far from Home<\/em>. Promotional material has fans hyped, along with heavy rumors of major cameos, which is leading to analysts to believe that Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/em> will crush some other records upon its debut.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife<\/em> took the second spot this weekend for the second weekend in a row, with $10.3 million. The latest in the Ghostbusters<\/em> franchise has cracked the $100 million mark domestically and earned just over $145 million since debuting in theaters three weeks ago. House of Gucci <\/em>fell 53% from last weekend, but was able to remain at number three after bringing in $6.7 million. The movie is directed by Ridley Scott, and is based on the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. The movie stars Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, and Al Pacino.

\n Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers<\/em> debuted at number four this weekend with $4.1 million. The release is a Fathom Events holiday special from the streaming series<\/a> The Chosen<\/em>. Eternals<\/em> took the fifth spot with $3.9 million. The Marvel Cinematic Universe project has $384.4 million globally since debuting in theaters five weeks ago, despite mixed reviews from fans and critics. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City<\/em> earned $2.6 million, which landed the movie at number six, while Dune<\/em> took the seventh spot with $1.8 million.

\n Clifford the Big Red Dog <\/em>came in at number eight this weekend with $1.7 million. The family movie has earned $45.7 million since debuting in theaters four weeks ago, despite PETA calling for viewers to skip it. King Richard<\/em> came in at number nine after earning $1.2 million. Finally, Venom: Let There Be Carnage<\/em> took the tenth position with $1 million. While the box office was a bit slow this weekend, things are expected to pick up next weekend with the release of Steven Spielberg\u2019s long-awaited adaptation of West Side Story<\/em>.
