All of us have dumb ideas, and our friends might indulge us by giving us a few bucks to fulfill them. But a billion dollars? Well, perhaps \u2014if you\u2019re Donald Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n

US President\u2019s social network said in a press release that it just received $1 billion in funding<\/a> from a \u201cdiverse group of institutional investors,\u201d without disclosing any names. After this deal, the Trump Media and Technology<\/a> Group (TMTG), is reportedly valued at $4 billion<\/a>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Investors are putting their money into a merged venture consisting of\u00a0 TMTG and the Digital World Acquisition Corp, a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
$1 billion is a lot of money: Facebook bought Instagram for that kind of moolah in 2012; the US could use it to vaccinate more than 40 million people<\/a> to save them from COVID-19; Trump can pay for the Secret Service to protect his family for nearly seven months<\/a>. You get the drift.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Trump\u2019s social network\u00a0 \u2014 ironically named TRUTH \u2014 and his media group were officially announced in October. At that time, the company said it aimed to launch the website and the app in invite-only mode by November. But clearly, it missed the deadline<\/a> and has made no announcements regarding the release date.<\/a><\/p>\n
