Partly as a star vehicle for Broadway favorite Rob McClure, who now plays Doubtfire a k a Daniel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-module inline-module--review alignleft\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n        <span class=\"inline-module--review__eyebrow widget-heading-semi__label\"><br \/>\n            Theater review      <\/span><\/p>\n<p>        2 hours and 30 minutes, with one intermission. At the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, 124 W. 43rd St.\n    <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The producers are also surely hoping to ensnare nostalgic millennials, who were bombarded by s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y films about divorce in the 1990s (\u201cMrs. Doubtfire,\u201d \u201cStepmom,\u201d \u201cLiar Liar\u201d), and now have kids of their own to torment with them.<\/p>\n<p>What we\u2019re left with is yet another assembly line musical of a movie \u2014 an obnoxious one, at that \u2014 in which every song by \u201cSomething Rotten!\u201d duo John O\u2019Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick is generic and forgettable.<\/p>\n<p>The first act ends with a ditty called \u201cBam! Harrison Ghee) help Daniel (Rob McClure) become Mrs. Doubtfire in the new Broadway musical.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Joan Marcus<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Like in the movie, Daniel, a struggling actor and doting dad, is forced to put on a woman\u2019s face after his wife leaves him (he mistakenly hires a s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>per for their son\u2019s birthday party) and a judge grants him only Saturday visitation rights with his three kids.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s a fun-loving, kooky man-child and his ex, Miranda (Jenn Gambatese) is a killjoy stick in the mud. Harrison Ghee), that he uses to sneak back into his San Francisco house and spend time with his son and two daughters. All they know is they have a crazy new Scottish nanny.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody questions why an old lady can move like she\u2019s 32, has the same sense of humor as their father and performs a \u201cRiverdance\u201d number when she claims to be from Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Like a kiss from Richard Dawson on \u201cFamily Feud,\u201d the plot of \u201cMrs. Doubtfire\u201d has grown creepy with age. Drag disguises are common onstage (\u201cTootsie\u201d is an infinitely better musical and a far superior movie), but when you add young children into the mix and, um, a court order prohibiting the main character from being with them, it\u2019s uncomfortable for us. But \u201cDoubtfire\u201d goes further and desperately pleads with us to love this schmuck.<\/p>\n<p>McClure is practically selling us a timeshare with his spastic, overeager performance. I can\u2019t deny it\u2019s technically very fine \u2014 he does funny voices: Gollum, Borat, Yoda \u2014 and jumps around like the stage is actually a trampoline. Frank\u2019s voice gets loud every time he tells a lie (it happens a lot), and a local kids TV program called \u201cThe Mr. Jolly Show\u201d has a hysterical host who\u2019s played by Peter Bartlett like a jet-lagged Rip Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>Every time Mr. Jolly left the stage, I resumed being Mr. Angry.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
