William Shatner\u2018s journey into outer space will be documented in a one-hour Prime Video special, set to premiere on Wednesday, December 15.<\/p>\n

Shatner in Space<\/em> will detail the events before, during, and after the Star Trek<\/em> actor\u2019s life-changing flight, which saw him become the oldest person to ever travel<\/a> to the cosmos. The documentary will also highlight Shatner\u2019s growing friendship with Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, whose dreams of space travel were inspired by the original Star Trek<\/em> series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Captain Kirk actor made the announcement during a virtual panel for CCXP Worlds, the virtual version of the world\u2019s largest fan convention in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy time in space was the most profound experience I could have ever imagined,\u201d said Shatner. \u201cThis special documenting my journey gives a dramatic view of that experience, and my hope is that it inspires the world to see we must go to space to save Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shatner also shared the exciting news<\/a> with his Twitter<\/a> followers, writing, \u201cI\u2019m hoping the @PrimeVideo special is a gift for everyone on this final night of #Chanukah.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with NBC\u2019s Today<\/em><\/a> in October, Shatner said he was \u201coverwhelmed\u201d with the view from the spacecraft\u2019s window and it made him worried for the future of Earth.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to take care of the planet, but it\u2019s so fragile,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s this little tiny blue skin that is 50 miles wide, and we pollute it, and it\u2019s our means of living.\u201d<\/p>\n

The special is produced by Amazon Studios, Blue Origin, Film 45, Jason Ehrlich Productions, and Bright Spot Content.<\/p>\n
