China could crack down on illegal drug production but lacks the \u201cpolitical will.\u201d In November, President Biden mourned those who\u2019ve died from drug overdoses, yet two days earlier, when \u201che met with Chinese President Xi Jinping,\u201d he \u201cfailed to bring up China\u2019s role in importing so much destruction and misery into the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mideast watch: What \u2018Peace\u2019 Really Means<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Much of the \u201cexpectation for peace between Arabs and Israelis,\u201d particularly after the Abraham Accords, \u201camounts to nothing more than wishful thinking,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/spectatorworld.com\/topic\/fantasy-israeli-palestinian-peace\/\">sighs Leon Hadar at Spectator World.<\/a> \u201cIn the Muslim Middle East, what we in the West equate with \u2018peace\u2019 amounts to a truce or a[n] armistice,\u201d though it could \u201cevolve into a longer period of calm.\u201d Israel can\u2019t count on any \u201csupposed Arab \u2018ally\u2019 to maintain its security.\u201d Indeed, \u201cmost Arabs continue to regard the Israelis as a foreign entity that stole land from its original inhabitants, the Palestinian Arabs.\u201d So \u201cdon\u2019t expect the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians to end h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ily.\u201d More likely, it will end \u201clike the civil wars in the former Yugoslavia, with Arabs and Jews separated behind high walls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Education beat: Schools Should Be Transparent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents should be able to know what\u2019s being taught to their children in the classroom,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/how-to-achieve-transparency-in-schools\">declare James R. Copland, John Ketcham and Christoher F. Rufo at City Journal.<\/a> Thus, the three have drafted \u201ca template\u201d for state legislatures that seek \u201cto foster school transparency.\u201d The plan balances \u201cthe needs for robust curricula and parents\u2019 rights\u201d; it doesn\u2019t \u201cattempt to define specific concepts\u201d or \u201cban, restrict, or discourage any materials,\u201d but rather simply tries to \u201cprovide parents with information about the curricula\u201d and let \u201cfamilies, teachers, and schools negotiate disagreements.\u201d True, there\u2019s no easy \u201cway to reconcile all competing perspectives.\u201d But the answer isn\u2019t \u201cto hide from parents what\u2019s being taught to their own children.\u201d Schools need to \u201copen their books and let parents see what\u2019s inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feminist: Fauci\u2019s Dangerous Narcissism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While lauding Dr. Anthony Fauci\u2019s Trump-era service as \u201ca voice for <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> and sanity in the face of the president\u2019s bluster and incompetence,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/unherd.com\/2021\/12\/anthony-faucis-dangerous-narcissism\/\">Kat Rosenfeld at UnHerd fears<\/a> he\u2019s proved \u201cultimately unable to resist buying into his own hype.\u201d Witness his claim on \u201cFace the Nation\u201d that his critics are \u201creally criticizing science because I represent science.\u201d This, notes Rosenfeld, exposes \u201ca monumental hubris no matter how you slice it, a conviction that no criticism \u2014 whether it\u2019s of him or his ideas \u2014 could ever be valid.\u201d Worse, it feeds the growing idea that \u201cscience isn\u2019t something we do, a method of systematic structure and study that separates fiction from fact and hypothesis from conclusion; it\u2019s something you believe in, like Santa Claus or alien abduction.\u201d In short, \u201cWe made science a civic religion, and we told Fauci he was the Pope. Unfortunately, he believed us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Urbanist: Don\u2019t Nix Half a Housing Loaf<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Killing an affordable-housing project on the grounds that it might also support gentrification is now \u201ca feature of development regulations nationwide, particularly in affluent coastal cities,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.governing.com\/community\/why-its-wrong-to-turn-down-half-a-loaf-of-affordable-housing\">grumbles Scott Beyer at Governing.com.<\/a> Notably, \u201cIn New York City, several large developments have been resisted because they supposedly aren\u2019t affordable enough.\u201d Yet \u201cwhen affordability mandates are too stringent, they can discourage development altogether.
