The actress is sensational in the part \u2014 and is doing the finest work of her career.<\/p>\n<p>She nails the off-camera Lucy in her prime: the acidic tongue, her dream of a normal suburban home life, disdain for mediocrity and especially the unparalleled power she wielded as a woman in showbiz in the 1950s. Cross Lucy at your peril.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s that trait \u2014 not a prosthetic nose or a vocal impression \u2014 that\u2019s most transformative about the sterling performance. When have we <em>ever<\/em> been afraid of and intimidated by Nicole Kidman?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-module inline-module--review alignleft\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n        <span class=\"inline-module--review__eyebrow widget-heading-semi__label\"><br \/>\n            movie review        <\/span><\/p>\n<p>        Running time: 125 minutes. Rated R (language.) In select theaters Dec. 10; On Prime Video Dec. 21.\n    <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ball, a fascinating subject, is also ideal fodder for writer-director Aaron Sorkin, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> often delve into the minds of complex geniuses such as Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs and underground poker figure Molly Bloom.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike those colder characters, we really do love Lucy, and there is a warmth to \u201cBeing the Ricardos\u201d that most of his previous biopics lack.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re gripped by her offscreen marital and career struggles. It\u2019s deeply relatable when she questions her husband Desi Arnaz\u2019s (Javier Bardem) fidelity and infuriating when a studio exec tells her she\u2019s not hot enough for the screen and suggests radio instead. After its theatrical run, film streams on Amazon Prime Video Dec. 21.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Glen Wilson\/ \u00a9 2021 Amazon Cont<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Sorkin\u2019s also got some \u2018splaining to do. His writing deftly and powerfully expresses how much of a comedy master Ball was behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<p>His scenes imagine how she would, say, single-handedly solve the famous stomping-in-the-grapes bit that isn\u2019t clicking in the writers room. Everyone (Alia Shawkat plays one writer) bickers around her, Ball goes into a trance and calmly says, \u201cI drop an earring.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The film is not a traditional biopic in the sense we see her as  a little girl or witness her early days on Broadway. We don\u2019t. Aside from a few flashbacks, it\u2019s set during one tricky week in 1952 as Ball\u2019s life and career dangled over the side of a cliff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She was about to be outed as a Communist Party member by a major <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>paper (she said it was a dumb choice she made almost 20 years earlier to satisfy her grandfather) and a magazine claimed her husband, business partner and co-star, Arnaz (Bardem), was cheating on her.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a disaster for America\u2019s sweetheart and the face of the country\u2019s most popular TV show. She knows that her livelihood and reputation are riding  on Friday\u2019s episode. This quartet needed to click, or else Sorkin\u2019s film wouldn\u2019t work. They do, and then some.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve always had my reservations about Sorkin as a director. His <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>s tend to be better than his final products.
