Projects at the intersection of decentralized finance and \u201cmetaverse-linked\u201d nonfungible token platforms are eligible for support, the company announced Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>Built using Cosmos SDK and Tendermint, Terra is a DeFi protocol that uses fiat-pegged stablecoins to power global payment systems. The native LUNA token has been designed to absorb the short-term volatility of Terra-based stablecoins.\u00a0Following its Columbus-5 upgrade in October, Terra is reportedly set to house over 160 new projects by early 2022. <\/p>\n<p>Terraform Labs, the South Korean development company behind the Terra blockchain, successfully <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/terra-money\/introducing-the-150-million-terra-ecosystem-fund-6aee01629edc\">raised<\/a> $150 million in funding earlier this year. Major crypto venture funds including Pantera Capital, Galaxy Digital and BlockTower Capital contributed to the raise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>The stablecoin scourge: Regulatory hesitancy may hinder adoption<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Terra has emerged as one of the largest DeFi-oriented blockchains on the market, with total value locked surpassing $13 billion, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/chains\">according<\/a> to industry data. Only Ethereum has a higher TVL. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-12\/15c4d172-feec-473f-b243-f8d7cd6161b9.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>In terms of TVL, Terra is second only to Ethereum and ahead of Solana, Avalanche, Tron and Polychain.
