This entry examines the casting of Amandla Stenberg in the Star Wars spin-off series The Acolyte.&lt;\/em&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<hr\/>\n<p>The most interesting question within the <strong><em>Star Wars<\/em><\/strong> franchise gets a little bit closer to an answer. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/12\/the-acolyte-amandla-stenberg-lead-star-wars-disney-series-1234887556\/\">According to Deadline<\/a>, <strong>Amandla Stenberg<\/strong> is negotiating to star in the Disney+ show\u00a0<strong><em>The Acolyte<\/em><\/strong>. The mysterious series from\u00a0<em>Russian Doll<\/em>\u00a0co-creator <strong>Leslye Headland<\/strong> has many fans scratching their heads, but the possible casting news offers a new nugget to contemplate. And at this stage, nuggets might as well be full-course banquets.<\/p>\n<p>Stenberg first came to attention as Rue in <em>The Hunger <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a>s<\/em> but quickly moved into significant roles in <em>The Hate U Give<\/em>, <em>The Darkest Minds<\/em>, and <em>Dear Evan Hansen<\/em>. A <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> into <em>Star Wars<\/em> would present them with their biggest spotlight yet, especially considering how <em>The Acolyte<\/em> could drastically expand the franchise\u2019s landscape. <em>Star Wars<\/em> is about to go star trekking, going where no series in its canon has gone before.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_and_When_is_The_High_Republic\"><\/span>What and When is The High Republic?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>The Acolyte<\/em> is set during the final days of <strong>The High Republic<\/strong>, a previously unexplored <em>Star Wars<\/em> era \u2014 unless you count its most recent heavy push in the comics and novels. This would place the new series somewhere around the timeframe of 82 years before <em>A New Hope<\/em>. It\u2019s when Jedi Knights were in their prime and the Sith were beginning their reclamation of the Force. If you lived within the Galactic Republic, you experienced tremendous peace. If you lived along the Outer Rim \u2014 the final frontier \u2014 you knew nothing but poverty and terror.<\/p>\n<p>In the current\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em> canon, The High Republic was first mentioned in the 2019 audio production <em>Dooku<\/em>: <em>Jedi Lost<\/em>. It is the story of Count Dooku\u2019s tumble into the Dark Side, where he and Sifo-Dyas broke into \u201cThe Bogan Collection,\u201d a treasury of Dark Side artifacts. He discovered its location by studying a High Republic Padawan\u2019s journal.<\/p>\n<p>The long-ago era wasn\u2019t officially named until the 2020 Marvel comic book <em>The Rise of Kylo Ren<\/em>, another story of a Jedi breaking bad. Since then, Lucasfilm has frantically enforced The High Republic as a noteworthy battlezone. It\u2019s a place where writers and artists have a little more freedom to explore and create, safely distanced from the live-action history. In The High Republic, creators are untethered from George Lucas. And maybe even more importantly, from fandom\u2019s stringent grip on what is and is not <em>Star Wars<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Amandla_Stenberg_Could_Expose_the_Dark_Side\"><\/span>Amandla Stenberg Could Expose the Dark Side<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When <em>The Rise of Skywalker<\/em> dropped its first tease\u00a0suggesting that Rey may succumb to the Dark Side, an intense longing rippled throughout <em>Star Wars<\/em> devotees. Dark Side obsession is a real attraction within the community. Since Darth Vader first strolled into the frame, fans have clamored to see the bad guys claim center stage. Take a stroll through any con USA; you can bet Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers adorn more geek clothing than Luke Skywalker and the Ewoks.<\/p>\n<p>Assuming Amandla Stenberg secures the titular lead in <em>The Acolyte<\/em>, we can also infer that they will be the first actor to invest their energy into deconstructing the Dark Side allure fully. In <em>Star Wars<\/em>, an Acolyte has a wicked connotation. Before Darth Bane enacted the Rule of Two, where Sith such as Sidious and Maul from <em>The Phantom Menace<\/em> operate as Master and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>rentice, Dark Side wielders amassed in Temples like the Jedi.<\/p>\n<p>First explored in the <em>Knights of the Old Republic<\/em> roleplaying game, Acolytes were soldiers of the Sith Order. They\u2019re basically Padawan opposites, younglings who\u2019ve only just begun their path toward the Dark Side. We\u2019ve seen this growth the most clearly in Anakin Skywalker after Tusken Raiders struck down his mother in <em>Attack of the Clones<\/em>. Now imagine a whole platoon of these\u00a0teenage ragers. It\u2019s gonna get ugly.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fandoms_Dark_Side_Attraction\"><\/span>Fandom\u2019s Dark Side Attraction<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Lucasfilm has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/starwars\/status\/1337176322053816325\">described the Leslye Headland\u00a0show<\/a> as \u201ca mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.\u201d We can expect Amandla Stenberg\u2019s character to struggle with fear, hate, and the resulting Dark Side suffering. Yoda\u2019s <em>Empire Strikes Back<\/em> warning to Luke should hover over everything in <em>The Acolyte<\/em>. Evil is always one choice away.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge for Headland and <em>The Acolyte<\/em> could be in depicting the Dark Side allure without glamorizing it.\u00a0We don\u2019t need a <em>Goodfellas<\/em> kind of <em>Star Wars<\/em>. Or maybe we do?\u00a0At a time when humanity feels utterly divided, <em>Star Wars<\/em> offers the most popular cultural platform to investigate Dark Side attraction. Approaching our enemies with empathy sparks understanding, and understanding is the first tool in defeating the enemy.<\/p>\n<p>This was one goal George Lucas had for the <em>Star Wars<\/em> prequels, exposing the galaxy\u2019s most notorious killer as a child stolen from his mother, who then had his mother stolen from him. Say what you will about the quality of those movies, but Lucas was reaching for something more grand and philosophical than what the original trilogy provided.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the<em>\u00a0Last Jedi<\/em> reaction taught us that a large portion of the fan community is not interested in such nuance. \u00a0If <em>The Acolyte<\/em> plunges into a Dark Side celebration, there is a worry that it could inspire a troubling, boneheaded response.
