for traders<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;<strong># ZK-rollups step into the limelight after the quest to scale Ethereum evolves <\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-128018ef>Scalability on the Ethereum (ETH) network has been a point of contention within the cryptocurrency ecosystem for years, primarily due to high fees and network congestion during periods of peak demand.<\/p>\n<p>The latest solution to emerge as the final fix to Ethereum\u2019s scalability woes are Zero-knowledge rollups (ZK rollups), a form of scaling that runs computations off-chain and submits them on-chain via a validity proof. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Zk rollup season <\/p>\n<p>\u2014 cryptowarlord.eth ( \u0361\u00b0 \u035c\u0296 \u0361\u00b0) (@CryptoWarlordd) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CryptoWarlordd\/status\/1468250554015096837?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 7, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nEarlier in the year, protocols that opted to use optimistic rollups such as Optimism and Arbitrum dominated the headlines and were touted as the best solution to scaling on Ethereum, but aside from Arbitrum, the hype for those protocols has quieted down and traders have pointed out that even optimistic rollups have higher than desirable fees when the network is under peak demand.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Early_successes_in_2021\"><\/span>Early successes in 2021<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At the same time that optimistic rollup solutions were in the spotlight, protocols that adopted the ZK rollups model quietly demonstrated their capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>dYdX, a decentralized perpetual and futures exchange, was one of the earliest adopters of ZK-rollup <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> through its partnership with StarkWare, whose StarkNet network is a permissionless decentralized ZK-Rollup.<\/p>\n<p>To date, the platform has seen a decent amount of success and at times managed to process a higher 24-hour trading volume than Coinbase. <\/p>\n<p>Loopring (LRC) is another protocol that has utilized ZK-rollups to decrease transaction costs and speed up its throughput capabilities, which has helped drive the price of LRC to a new all-time high of $3.83 in early November. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-12\/bf66f4c8-f8fe-4398-ad2b-6c4cdc012a4f.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>LRC\/USDT 1-day chart. Source: TradingView<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Ethereum layer-two TVL reaches all-time high<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ZK-rollups_could_be_the_next_%E2%80%9Crotation%E2%80%9D_for_traders\"><\/span>ZK-rollups could be the next &#8220;rotation&#8221; for traders<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Following last week&#8217;s sharp market-wide sell-off, ZK-rollups have reemerged as a buzzword in crypto sector. <\/p>\n<p>Polygon, a layer-two platform for the Ethereum network, made headlines with the announced acquisition of Mir, a project developing two subcategories of zero-knowledge proofs known as PLONK and Halo. <\/p>\n<p>The 250 million MATIC token investment by Polygon, which already offers some of the lowest fees of any protocol on the Ethereum network, was done in an effort \u201cto explore and encourage all meaningful scaling <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roaches and technologies at this stage,\u201d according to Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal.<\/p>\n<p>Another much-anticipated protocol that has been gaining traction recently is zkSync, a scaling solution created by Matter Labs that secured $50 million in a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Series<\/a> B round led by Andreessen Horowitz in early November.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-12\/2fb24e68-ac29-47d2-9488-6783f4382cea.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>zkSync total deposits vs. total unique users<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to Digital Delphi, the two main projects that are live on zkSync is ZigZag, a decentralized exchange, and a funding platform called Gitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts at Delphi Digital said, <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAccording to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/l2fees.info\/\">L2 fees<\/a>, token swaps through ZigZag on zkSync have the lowest fees.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"post-content__disclaimer\">The views and opinions expressed here are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Cointelegraph.com.
