Jared Polis, a Democrat, declared in a new interview that the\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0emergency is \u201cover\u201d and that he won\u2019t be implementing another statewide mask mandate in response to the spread of the omicron variant, explaining that if people aren\u2019t vaccinated at this point it\u2019s their \u201cown darn fault\u201d if they get sick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody had more than enough opportunity to get\u00a0vaccinated,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cpr.org\/2021\/12\/10\/interview-gov-jared-polis-mask-mandates-covid\/\">Polis told Colorado Public Radio<\/a>\u00a0on Friday. \u201cHopefully it\u2019s been at your pharmacy, your grocery store, a bus near you, [or at] big events. At this point, if you haven\u2019t been vaccinated, it\u2019s really your own darn fault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who get sick, it\u2019s almost entirely their own darn fault,\u201d he continued. \u201cI don\u2019t want to say that nobody [will get the virus if they\u2019re] vaccinated, but it\u2019s very rare. Just to put it in perspective, of the about 1400 people hospitalized, less than 200 (or 16 percent) are vaccinated. And many of them are older or have other conditions. Eighty-four percent of the people in our hospitals are unvaccinated, and they absolutely had every chance to get vaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd at this point, I think it\u2019s almost like they made a deliberate decision not to get vaccinated,\u201d he added. \u201cI still encourage everybody who hasn\u2019t been vaccinated to get protected. And for those who are, make sure to get that booster after six months. The data shows it\u2019s important and very likely even more so with this omicron variant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Polis said he supported local jurisdictions instituting their own mandates according to their individual needs, but that the state should stay out of it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe emergency is over,\u201d he said. \u201cYou know, public health [officials] don\u2019t get to tell people what to wear; that\u2019s just not their job. Public health [officials] would say to always wear a mask because it decreases flu and decreases [other airborne illnesses]. But that\u2019s not something that you require; you don\u2019t tell people what to wear. You don\u2019t tell people to wear a jacket when they go out in winter and force them to [wear it]. If they get frostbite, it\u2019s their own darn fault.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you haven\u2019t been vaccinated, that\u2019s your choice. I respect that. But it\u2019s your fault when you\u2019re in the hospital with COVID,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Polis lamented that there is an \u201calternate misinformation universe\u201d contributing to people not getting vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are people that believe you and I are part of some massive conspiracy, Ryan,\u201d he told \u201cColorado Matters\u201d host Ryan Warner. \u201cSome of them believe there is no COVID; some of them believe the vaccine doesn\u2019t work; some believe that the vaccine has severe side effects. The truth is they\u2019re in their own bubble, and it\u2019s very hard to penetrate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor\u2019s comments follow new restrictions instituted in several\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/denver\">Denver<\/a>\u00a0metro area counties, including a \u201cvax or mask\u201d mandate, which requires businesses to either mandate masks indoors or require customers to provide proof of vaccination.\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
