The final Patch Tuesday of 2021 has arrived, and with it, Microsoft has fixed its\u00a0887 CVE-assigned vulnerability. As impressive as that is, there will be a never-ending stream of new issues for the company to fix.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Zero Day Initiative<\/a>, Microsoft had a busy 2021, patching an impressive 887\u00a0CVE-assigned vulnerabilities. CVE-assigned means vulnerabilities that are\u00a0identified, defined, and cataloged by the\u00a0CVE\u00a0Program. That means Microsoft has likely fixed far more than the 887 outlined in Zero Day Initiative\u2019s report, but those aren\u2019t tracked. Additionally, that number doesn\u2019t include Chromium-based Edge.<\/p>\n

While that number is large, it\u2019s actually a 29% decrease over 2020. We\u2019ll have to wait for 2022 to see what sorts of new bugs and vulnerabilities make their way to the surface and how many of them Microsoft will fix on Patch Tuesday (and through other emergency patches).<\/p>\n

As far as the most recent Patch Tuesday<\/a>, Microsoft released 67 security fixes. Of those, seven are critical issues and one is a zero-day flaw actively being exploited in the wild, so it\u2019s definitely a set of updates you\u2019ll want to download<\/a> to make sure your PC is as secure as possible.<\/p>\n
