With the demand that Andrew Cuomo forfeit the millions he was paid for his book on COVID leadership, the state is declaring the end of a long nightmare.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now it\u2019s official: Nobody in New York politics is afraid of Andrew Cuomo anymore. His era of dominance and fear is finished.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Forever.<\/p>\n<p>If that sounds obvious, consider that even after Cuomo resigned as governor in disgrace, there were reports he was plotting a comeback. One rumor had him running for his old office in the gubernatorial primary next June.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another had him running for attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> next year. The implication was that, if he won, he would use the AG job as a stepping stone to be governor, just as he did before.<\/p>\n<p>One of his lawyers even cited the \u201cwidespread speculation\u201d of a comeback as a reason why Letitia James, then the AG and briefly a gubernatorial candidate, should \u00adrecuse herself from investigating Cuomo.<\/p>\n<p>The credibility of such rumors rested not on their sources but on the enormous shadow Cuomo had cast over Albany and, indeed, all of New York. He was the 800-pound gorilla who was headed for a fourth term and it was hard to get your hands around the idea that he \u00adreally was gone and wasn\u2019t coming back.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many in the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> also stepped gingerly, a caution that was understandable if not defensible. If \u00adCuomo did make a successful return, woe to those who had crossed him. His reputation for merciless revenge was well deserved.<\/p>\n<p>The 12-1 vote by the Joint Commission on Public Ethics settles the issue. Nothing says we\u2019re not afraid of you anymore like a bipartisan demand for as much as $5.1 million \u2014 in 30 days!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the ethics agency itself encapsulates the rise and fall of \u00adCuomo.<\/p>\n<p>He had <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved its odd structure \u2014 it had appointees by the governor as well as by both parties and chambers in the Legislature \u2014 as a way to protect himself, and insiders duly leaked confidential votes to him. He clearly had no intention of abiding by those terms and almost certainly assumed he could get away with using multiple aides to work on the book, with some testifying they were assigned to help while on government time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some said they volunteered their time, though documents released suggest the word \u201cvolunteered\u201d was flexible. For a period, it seems as if the entire executive chamber was working on the book \u2014 all while the pandemic raged and crime skyrocketed.<\/p>\n<p>As Assembly investigators also recently revealed, the book contract was being negotiated at the very same time Cuomo\u2019s crew was hiding from the public the true number of nursing-home deaths. It\u2019s an ironic defense coming from a man who was the consummate political animal and indicative of the fact that he probably can\u2019t imagine anyone in public life ever doing anything on the merits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer, Jim McGuire, threatened that any attempts to enforce the collection order would end up in court.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s probably inevitable, and it will add another layer to the image of Cuomo tied up in lawsuits and tied down in investigations and thus no longer a political force. There is a strong chance he will face a criminal charge from his alleged groping of at least one former aide, Brittany Commisso, and it\u2019s likely some or all of the other victims will file civil suits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The feds, meanwhile, supposedly are investigating him on various issues, including whether the sexual-harassment findings rise to the level of civil-rights violations.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/goodwin-cuomo-crisis-545.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Cuomo may face criminal charges for allegedly groping former aide Brittany Commisso.\" class=\"wp-image-20494400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/goodwin-cuomo-crisis-545.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/goodwin-cuomo-crisis-545.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/goodwin-cuomo-crisis-545.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Cuomo may face criminal charges for allegedly groping former aide Brittany Commisso.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">CBS News<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And James is still said to be investigating the book deal as a possible criminal matter.<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo\u2019s legal team has been hammering her for months, but lost one of its main arguments when she decided not to run for governor and seek re-election instead. Her campaign for Cuomo\u2019s old job allowed him to claim she had a conflict of interest and shouldn\u2019t be \u00adinvestigating him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That issue is now moot, and James actually gave the governor some good advice Tuesday. Appearing on \u201cThe View,\u201d she said, \u201cHe needs to take responsibility for his own personal conduct .\u2009.\u2009. and move on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That seems unlikely, if only because he has no place to go.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Blinkens_empty_threat_vs_Vlad\"><\/span>Blinken\u2019s empty threat vs. Vlad<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This week\u2019s award for the speech that is all \u201cSound and Fury, Signifying Nothing\u201d goes to Secretary of State Antony Blinken. And because President Biden has taken the use of the military off the table, Ukraine is on its own. Putin knows that, too.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Manch_no_mensch\"><\/span>Manch no mensch?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Reader Bob Miletsky is confident that, after all the drama, Sen.
