“#New \u2018Scream\u2019 Sequel Will Bring Courteney Cox Back Again as Gale Weathers<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Do you like scary movies<\/a>? Friends<\/em> star Courteney Cox<\/strong> certainly does, because she has just officially signed on for her fifth Scream<\/em><\/strong> movie, once again reprising\u00a0her role as reporter Gale Weathers. Get more details about Paramount\u2019s relaunch of the horror franchise below.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wes Craven, who directed all four existing Scream<\/em> films, died in 2015, so Matt Bettinelli-Olpin<\/strong> and Tyler Gillett<\/strong> of the filmmaking group Radio Silence are taking over for this new version, which is app<\/a>arently taking a page out of the Halloween<\/em> (2018) playbook and just going by the title Scream<\/strong><\/em>. If you don\u2019t recognize those filmmakers by name, they\u2019re the ones who directed last year\u2019s Ready or Not<\/em> and segments of horror anthology films like V\/H\/S<\/em> and Southbound<\/em>. Evidently they had a pitch that honors Craven\u2019s legacy, and they seem to have convinced most of the major players to get on board.<\/p>\n

Cox, whose Gale Weathers character was instrumental in the downfall of the killer in 2011\u2019s Scream 4<\/em>, joins her former real-life husband David Arquette<\/strong> as part of the new Scream<\/em> cast, with Arquette reprising his role as Dewey Riley. This press release promises that more casting announcements will be coming soon, and we can only assume that means that Neve Campbell will be back as Sidney Prescott, the \u201cfinal girl\u201d from all four previous Scream<\/em> movies. We know she\u2019s been negotiating her return, so hopefully they can reach an agreement and the complete original trio will be back for this new installment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t imagine \u2018Scream\u2019 without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney,\u201d Radio Silence said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re absolute mega fans of her work and we\u2019re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the \u2018Scream\u2019\u00a0 saga!\u201d<\/p>\n

While screenwriter Kevin Williamson has long been the brains behind this franchise, he\u2019s stepping into an executive producer role for this entry while James Vanderbilt<\/strong> (Murder Mystery<\/em>, Zodiac<\/em>, The Amazing Spider-Man<\/em>) and Guy Busick<\/strong> (Ready or Not<\/em>, Castle Rock<\/em>) write the screenplay this time. The production is aiming to film in Wilmington, North Carolina, but it\u2019s unclear exactly what the timeline will be on both the filming and the movie\u2019s ultimate release, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

As for Cox, she\u2019ll soon be seen on HBO Max\u2019s much-hyped\u00a0Friends<\/em> reunion special, and she\u2019ll also be showing up on a Starz horror comedy series called Shining Vale<\/em>.<\/p>\n
