He eventually enters the other characters\u2019 orbit.<\/p>\n<p>Each episode takes place during a different holiday \u2014 Christmas, New Year\u2019s Eve, Valentine\u2019s Day, July 4th and Dia de los Muertos (\u201cDay of the Dead\u201d), a Mexican holiday that reunites the living and the dead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t care what ethnicity you are, there is a holiday awkwardness, and the fact we get to see this family on a different holiday in each episode is a genius premise,\u201d Marie said. \u201cYou know [that] so much happens between the holidays, and to get to check in and take the family\u2019s temperatures and see how their relationships have evolved or not evolved \u2026 this feels like it has it all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That includes Beatriz and Jorge Sr., who love their children and each other. From the get-go, however, the facade of their happy marriage shows some fissures \u2014 of which Beatriz is more acutely aware. \u201cThis is a multi-generational love story and I think a lot of women in America will be able to relate to Beatriz,\u201d said Marie, best-known to TV viewers from her starring roles on \u201cGeorge Lopez\u201d and \u201cSwitched at Birth.\u201d \u201cShe got the man of her dreams, had her children and is now a working woman and she and Jorge Sr. have been together 35 years. You have your \u2018happily ever after\u2019 and then what? You\u2019re on autopilot.
