{"id":382743,"date":"2021-12-18T04:24:47","date_gmt":"2021-12-18T01:24:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/elizabeth-holmes-believed-theranos-would-change-the-world-defense-says-ahead-of-verdict\/"},"modified":"2021-12-18T04:24:47","modified_gmt":"2021-12-18T01:24:47","slug":"elizabeth-holmes-believed-theranos-would-change-the-world-defense-says-ahead-of-verdict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/elizabeth-holmes-believed-theranos-would-change-the-world-defense-says-ahead-of-verdict\/","title":{"rendered":"#Elizabeth Holmes believed Theranos \u2018would change the world,\u2019 defense says ahead of verdict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Elizabeth Holmes believed Theranos \u2018would change the world,\u2019 defense says ahead of verdict<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Attorneys for Elizabeth Holmes made their last stand on Friday as jurors prepared to decide whether the Theranos founder is guilty of conspiracy and fraud.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors have portrayed Holmes as a crook and liar who defrauded investors out of nearly $1 billion and put patients at risk by providing faulty blood tests. <\/p>\n<p>Holmes\u2019 attorneys responded that the founder genuinely believed that Theranos would revolutionize healthcare by creating a cheaper, easier and quicker way to test blood.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As evidence, Holmes\u2019 attorney Kevin Downey pointed to the fact that Holmes stayed at Theranos until the bitter end, long after many investors and employees jumped ship in the wake of a damning 2015 Wall Street Journal expos\u00e9 showing that the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> was deeply flawed. <\/p>\n<p>The company, which was once valued at $9 billion, officially folded in 2018 with Holmes still at the helm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know that at the first sign of trouble, crooks cash out,\u201d Downey told jurors in San Jose federal court. \u201cShe went down with that ship when it went down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe believed she was building a technology that would change the world,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/elizabeth-holmes-theranos-874-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Elizabeth Holmes prosecutor\" class=\"wp-image-20535593\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/elizabeth-holmes-theranos-874-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/elizabeth-holmes-theranos-874-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/elizabeth-holmes-theranos-874-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Prosecutors are trying to put Elizabeth Holmes behind bars for 20 years.  <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Downey\u2019s dramatic final speech came before the jury \u2014 which is made up of 10 men and four women, including two alternates\u00a0\u2014 began the process of deciding Holmes\u2019 fate after three months of testimony.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jurors must agree unanimously to convict or acquit Holmes on each of nine counts of federal wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud that could result in a 20-year prison sentence. Hurts so much. So so much. Can\u2019t focus on anything except why? Why hurting myself? Can\u2019t even move let alone do sit-ups or actually sit up. Lying swollen.
