Noting that a journalist had said \u201cJK Rowling is her woman of the year,\u201d Forstater added: \u201cMine too. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IStandWithJKRowling?src=hashtag_click\">#IStandWithJKRowling<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>As Rowling prepares for the 20th anniversary of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> based on her seminal book series, she is facing a wave of criticism \u2014 along with praise from feminists who see her as a folk hero crusading for their rights.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-22023162-292c-488d-8fd0-f6820d85724d\">Forstater\u2019s post was a callback to a December 2019 tweet in which the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d creator put her reputation and esteemed career on the line to defend Forstater, who had been let go from her job because of comments she made that a person cannot choose to change their biological sex.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-785c574c-575d-45f8-8dcd-ac11943dc2ab\">\u201cDress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who\u2019ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jk_rowling\/status\/1207646162813100033?lang=en\">Rowling tweeted<\/a> to her then-14.5 million followers.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-4c34c1eb-c969-45b5-90c7-d56b1e3df296\">\u201cI didn\u2019t know that she was going to, it came out of the blue,\u201d Forstater told The Post. \u201cAt first, I didn\u2019t believe it was true. Somebody messaged a screenshot to me, but I thought they had made it to cheer me up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-313eabb5-9c26-4bcb-b32b-5c022504cdd5\">The day before Rowling\u2019s tweet, a judge in the UK had decided that Forstater\u2019s employer had the legal right to not renew her contract over the comments and that it was not a matter of discrimination against her.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/jk-rowling-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Upon the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter series, fans are taking another look at J.K. I was the lowest I could be. But the tweet was so amazing \u2026. It went completely all over the world.\u201d Forstater said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-9e4a2278-3bee-4f56-98c9-06a25eb1b604\">\u201cAnd then the lies started spreading \u2014 saying I had harassed a colleague or misgendered a colleague. The truth is I didn\u2019t have any trans colleagues,\u201d Forstater said. \u201cPeople just wanted to discredit what J.K. had said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-7ec170a4-9d8f-4caa-9d37-119d11bc9800\">Rowling was accused of being transphobic and a TERF \u2014 a scathing acronym that stands for \u201ctrans-exclusionary radical feminist.\u201d Actors from the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d and \u201cFantastic Beasts\u201d movies spoke out against her. Zero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor 20 years, Warner Bros., J.K. Rowling and her team have worked together to delight fans around the world with spectacular storytelling and the magic of the Wizarding World. That relationship continues today and is more collaborative than ever,\u201d Neil Blair, founding partner of The Blair Partnership and Ann Sarnoff, Chair and CEO, WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group said in a joint statement to the post. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> reports to the contrary are completely untrue, and we are disappointed that these inaccurate stories only serve to hurt the Harry Potter fans we hope to entertain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-8bda3ba0-3b3d-4abc-9538-06ffdaa6d138\">Rowling was back in the headlines this week for another reason, too, as she responded to a move by the Scottish police force \u2014\u00a0which said it would record rapes as being carried out by a woman if the accused insists on this gender assignment, even if it has not been legally changed. The author used a twist on George Orwell\u2019s \u201cNewspeak\u201d to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jk_rowling\/status\/1470092815506063365\">tweet<\/a>: \u201cWar is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The 47-year-old mother of two \u2014 who is herself the daughter of \u201cMonty Python and the Holy Grail\u201d producer Mark Forstater \u2014 lost her job after expressing her views that a person\u2019s biological sex cannot be changed and that transgender women are \u201cnot women\u201d and sex is \u201cnot to be conflated with gender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-5237ebfb-07c0-4288-929d-ca9f44a7cb32\">Forstater\u2019s 2018 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mforstater\/status\/1386657481993170949\">tweets<\/a> were in opposition to proposed reform of the UK\u2019s Gender Recognition Act (GRA), which would allow trans people to self-identify without a medical confirmation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-cc0600e8-7a0e-4300-989b-3377c2a8f9fa\">\u201cI was concerned and I thought I should be able to tweet about it. But once the author got involved, she was all in.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-34ffd687-b91b-4a4f-891c-0ce1c6294b8d\">As for why, Rowling has explained in an essay that she was, at the time, writing a new series about a female detective \u2014\u00a0but hasn\u2019t revealed how or if biological sex might come into play for the story.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-8d39a063-ab2c-4e7b-a183-d670f217682f\">And, as a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual assault, she said: \u201cI want trans women to be safe. We cannot do that if we cannot define that category coherently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-662376e1-794c-40c6-aaf9-cdcea830201a\">Forstater agreed. \u201cWhen I read JK\u2019s essay, I thought, \u2018She\u2019s a national treasure. She\u2019s written this essay that sets out everything so clearly and articulately.\u2019 And the next day they called her a witch and wanted to burn her,\u201d she told The Post. \u201cI think she knew she would get this reaction and she kept doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-2f48f201-5806-4ad2-9aa4-fff8703c531d\">****<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-3ad7b513-eadb-4025-b396-2c296f67ec7e\">Another reason for wading into the debate, Rowling wrote, was her concern about the \u201chuge explosion\u201d in young women experimenting with transitioning \u2014 as well as the growing number of those \u201cdetransitioning\u201d back to their biological sex: \u201cThey regret taking steps that have, in some cases, altered their bodies irrevocably, and taken away their fertility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-e110a144-b76f-4d1d-8339-022e3040805f\">In June, The Post reported that <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/resources\/interactive-map-clinical-care-programs-for-gender-nonconforming-childr\">The Human Rights Campaign<\/a>\u00a0listed more than 40 \u201cclinical care programs for transgender and gender-expansive youth\u201d on its Web site. Shrier wrote how, as of 2018, Britain had seen a 4,400 percent rise from the previous decade in teen girls seeking treatments.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-1b7f7293-89f9-4517-ab7c-a411c73180fb\">Like Rowling, Shrier found herself shouted down on social media, and her book was removed from Target.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-1b867cec-39f8-4939-b3ec-af4b32f66eb7\">In October, Dr. Marci Bowers and Erica Anderson, a clinical psychologist at the University of California, San Francisco\u2019s Child and Adolescent Gender Clinic \u2014 both of whom are transgender \u2014 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bariweiss.substack.com\/p\/top-trans-doctors-blow-the-whistle\">discussed the risks<\/a> that come with gender reassignment surgery for children.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-e22760b7-d728-43c3-a8e4-cca68df54d47\">\u201cI think there was naivete on the part of pediatric endocrinologists who were proponents of early [puberty] blockage, thinking that just this magic can happen, that surgeons can do anything,\u201d said Bowers, who operated on transgender reality star Jazz Jennings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t believe anyone who calls Jo out as transphobic actually read her long essay. The most I\u2019ve read is a line about bathrooms (Rowling stated that she had \u201cconcerns\u201d around \u201csingle-sex spaces\u201d) which again is something I suspect that the vast vast majority of woman feel too. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is important as I suspect that the hate she receives comes from the unfair criticisms that came initially from the three lead Harry Potter actors (who commented before her essay was published),\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-0e33af21-eb77-47c8-ae2b-2976b09204b6\">In June, Forstater won her appeal against the original ruling, as a judge\u00a0said the original tribunal had \u201cerred in law,\u201d adding that Forstater\u2019s views \u201cmust be tolerated in a pluralist society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-5ca0f284-d927-43d7-bf48-f734023744d3\">Now running her own organization, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sex-matters.org\/\">Sex Matters<\/a>, Forstater will head back to court in March for the next hearing on her dismissal.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-c5e4f109-cec6-424b-a618-24a1a2b9471a\">Rowling, she said, has \u201cbeen so brave. Almost no one has spoken up for her \u2026 She must feel so betrayed. I think we all do \u2014 people who you know agree with you, but won\u2019t speak up because it\u2019s too dangerous and scary.<\/p>\n<p id=\"block-d437aa6e-13cd-404a-89de-83e5e50bf182\">\u201cI think people will turn around in years to come and say \u2018Why didn\u2019t we speak up?\u2019 and J.K.
