I couldn\u2019t believe it \u2013 they cost up to \u00a31,200 to buy new.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple from Gloucestershire went to a scrap store and bought all the materials they needed, saving a hefty \u00a31,160.<\/p>\n<p>She said her top advice would be to go to local stores to ask for their expertise and look around at what you already have as you can recycle lots.<\/p>\n<p>She also said to get inspiration from the internet as they even looked at Tiktok and to most importantly, have fun with it.<\/p>\n<p>Nikki said: \u201cI am so proud of what we have achieved as it\u2019s turned out great!<\/p>\n<p>For any aspiring DIY\u2019ers, she said: \u201cIf people want to make one, they should definitely look out for a local scrap store to help keep the cost low.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On how they made the impressive nutcracker, Nicki explained: \u201cWe used wooden barrels to make the structure of the hat, face and body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe then used long postal tubes for the arms and legs.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"679\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/e91a27fe-0f80-4b45-a076-3d6de163bab0.jpeg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" alt=\"Nicki and Steve Jeffs, both 32, were gobsmacked by the price of nutcrackers online so made their own seven-foot version, spending only \u00a340.\" class=\"wp-image-20550493\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/e91a27fe-0f80-4b45-a076-3d6de163bab0.jpeg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 800w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/e91a27fe-0f80-4b45-a076-3d6de163bab0.jpeg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=400 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\/><figcaption>Nicki and Steve Jeffs, both 32, were gobsmacked by the price of nutcrackers online so made their own seven-foot version, spending only \u00a340.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Latestdeals.co.uk<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe sectioned it and spray-painted it with the colours we had decided to go for.<\/p>\n<p>The couple managed to stick all the pieces together with a hot glue gun.<\/p>\n<p>Breaking down the costs, Nikki said: \u201cWe bought most of our materials from a local scrap store so the total price came in below \u00a340. At our local scrap store, you can just fill a bag for \u00a37.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe barrels were \u00a34 each, the arms and legs and decoration materials were \u00a37, the spray paint was \u00a320, the glue sticks were \u00a32 and the felt was \u00a31.<\/p>\n<p>As for difficulty, she said that: \u201cThe hardest part was making sure the barrels lined up together so it sat flush and didn\u2019t overlap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When it came to accessories, Nikki made the nutcracker\u2019s \u2018hair\u2019 from a spare bit of wool and the buttons out of bottle lids spray painted gold.<\/p>\n<p>She also bought baubles to create the shoulders and hands on the figure.<\/p>\n<p>Creating the entire decoration took about five days as they had to wait for the paint and the glue to dry.<\/p>\n<p>Nikki said: \u201cI am very pleased with how he has turned out and I am so glad I was able to do it at a reasonable budget.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couples creation is over seven feet tall so it towers above both of them.<\/p>\n<p>The pair are really h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y with themselves for managing to keep costs low as it shows other people they do not have to spend a fortune to get something they want, they also hope it encourages other to try DIY too.<\/p>\n<p>Nikki set herself a budget to not go over \u00a3100 so when they kept costs below \u00a340, she was: \u201cover the moon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will never look exactly like the ones they sell for \u00a31,200 but I am so happy with the way it\u2019s turned out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The experience of making something was even more special than buying a ready made one as Nikki explained: \u201cI love it even more as it\u2019s personal as me and my husband made it together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am over the moon with the amount of money I\u2019ve saved!\u201d She said, overjoyed.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
