It offers all the safety measures of a traditional security key and adds on a fingerprint reader for simple top-notch security, and we love it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"review-card-body-inline\">\n<div class=\"text\">\n<div class=\"pros\">\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Heres_What_We_Like\"><\/span>Here&#8217;s What We Like<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Super fast<\/li>\n<li>Accurate fingerprint reader<\/li>\n<li>Easy enough for anyone to use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"cons\">\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"And_What_We_Dont\"><\/span>And What We Don&#8217;t<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Kinda pricey<\/li>\n<li>Could have a more compact form factor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Although physical security keys might not be for everyone, Yubico\u2019s new YubiKey C Bio makes an excellent case for getting one. Why? With the addition of a biometric authentication layer, this key is far more secure than an entry-level security key (or, god forbid, a 2FA text code or the simple password you told your browser to remember for you) and a great way to protect your information and accounts whether it\u2019s for work or just at home.<\/p>\n<p>And, hey, it helps that the YubiKey C Bio is super fast and easy to use, too. Yubico\u2019s powerful hardware security for all of your precious information in a single intuitive device? Heck yes. We can\u2019t recommend this convenient little gadget enough.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Features_and_Compatibility\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_0\">Features and Compatibility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Yubico sent me both the USB-A and USB-C versions of the FIDO Edition keys, but I only tested the YubiKey C Bio. Both have support for FIDO2\/WebAuthn and FIDO U2F, giving you secure passwordless multi-factor authentication. They\u2019ll work on platforms supporting WebAuthn\u2014like Windows macOS, Chrome OS, and Linux\u2014as well as across Chromium-based browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.<\/p>\n<p>The security key is compatible with a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=204a528a336ede4177fff0d84a044482&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.yubico.com%2Fsetup%2Fyubikey-bio-series%2F\">wide variety of services<\/a> like Google, Microsoft, Coinbase, 1Password,\u00a0 Twitter, Amazon Web Services, Dropbox Business, Facebook,\u00a0 Ebay, GitLab, Oracle,\u00a0 Shopify, and a ton more. It\u2019s worth noting that the key does not work with Windows Hello to unlock your computer, however.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-104771 size-full\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2021\/12\/3539206d.png\" alt=\"The USB-C key plugged into a laptop, top-down shot\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" data-credittext=\"Kevin Bonnett\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"imagecredit\">Kevin Bonnett<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While it is designed for desktop and workstation applications and built for business, you can absolutely still use it to protect your personal information. It may well be too pricey or overkill for the average user, but personally, I don\u2019t think it ever hurts to have extra security. It\u2019s definitely a great option for those who will use it professionally, though, for cloud-first environments or hybrid cloud- and on-premise environments (and no matter whether you\u2019re a privileged user, or part of a remote workforce or mobile-restricted environment).<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Setup_and_Backups\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_1\">Setup and Backups<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Getting the YubiKey C Bio set up was painless for the most part. It took literally just one or two minutes to plug in the key to my Windows laptop and enroll my fingerprints on it. And don\u2019t worry if you aren\u2019t a Windows user\u2014you also have the option to set up the key using Linux (Ubuntu 18.04 or later), macOS (Catalina or Big Sur), or Chrome OS (93 or later).<\/p>\n<p>All you\u2019ll need to do is simply plug in the key to your computer, and a prompt will automatically pop up and walk you through the fingerprint enrollment process. It does allow you to enroll multiple fingerprints, and I recommend adding at least two prints, whether that\u2019s one from each hand (you never know when you\u2019ll need to securely access your Twitter account while you\u2019re in the middle of making dinner or painting your masterpiece, after all) or one fingerprint each from you and your spouse.<\/p>\n<p>Yubico does recommend getting a backup key, as well, since it\u2019s always possible to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/366188\/what-to-do-if-you-lose-a-u2f-key\/\">lose your primary key<\/a> if you aren\u2019t careful. If you just have one computer you use at home, this is likely overkill. However, if you use several devices and are constantly taking them with you on the go or using them on multiple public networks, I support Yubico in its recommendation to pick up a backup. Yeah, that\u2019s another $85 or so, but that\u2019s really not a high price to pay for security for those who genuinely need it. It\u2019s also available in a USB-A form.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, setting up the key was super easy and didn\u2019t take long, which I really appreciated. The process is incredibly streamlined, too, which makes it a super approachable device for those who aren\u2019t super tech-savvy.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Daily_Use\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_2\">Daily Use<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-104772 size-full\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2021\/12\/8b6087e1.png\" alt=\"The USB-C key plugged in to a tablet trying to access Twitter\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" data-credittext=\"Kevin Bonnett\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"imagecredit\">Kevin Bonnett<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Just as setting up the YubiKey C Bio was a cinch, so too was actually using it each day. The fast-to-read fingerprint sensor never took a long time to detect and verify my fingerprint. It\u2019s also highly intuitive, as it has blinking LED lights that let me know when it is reading my print and once it has successfully verified it. This is a small touch that I appreciated having, so I always knew what the gadget was doing.<\/p>\n<p>The key is the standard YubiKey size, too. It doesn\u2019t take up much room in my bag or desk or wherever. It was slightly annoying to have hanging off the side of my laptop as I moved around with it, as I imagine people might do in an in-person office; however, if you\u2019ll be keeping your laptop at your desk or using it on a desktop tower, it\u2019s totally fine (you may want to pick up a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Anker-Extended-MacBook-Surface-Notebook\/dp\/B07L32B9C2?tag=reviewgeek-20\">USB hub<\/a> to make it easier on your desktop, though). Overall, the C Bio always worked quickly, never had any issues, and did a good job keeping all of my information safe.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Final_Thoughts\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_3\">Final Thoughts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The YubiKey C Bio makes security exactly what it should be: secure, easy, and fast. It\u2019s more secure than a traditional security key, thanks to the onboard fingerprint reader that\u2019s nigh impossible to fool, but still incredibly easy to use no matter who you are. While I wish it was just a pinch smaller, I\u2019m sure that\u2019s something that Yubico will implement in future versions as the technology improves.
