“#DuckDuckGo Is Putting Privacy First With Its Desktop Browser”<\/strong><\/p>\n

There\u2019s going to be a new web browser entering the battle, and it comes from DuckDuckGo, one of the first names in privacy. If you\u2019re a fan of the mobile app<\/a>, the desktop browser looks to bring all the best features to larger devices.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike we\u2019ve done on mobile, DuckDuckGo for desktop will redefine user expectations of everyday online privacy,\u201d said\u00a0Gabriel Weinberg, CEO of DuckDuckGo, in a blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It sounds like the browser will be all about making privacy simple. As a result, you won\u2019t have to deal with all kinds of settings to get a secure experience. \u201cNo complicated settings, no misleading warnings, no \u201clevels\u201d of privacy protection \u2014 just robust privacy protection that works by default, across search, browsing, email, and more,\u201d reads the blog post.<\/p>\n

However, the CEO also notes that it\u2019s not just a \u201cprivacy browser.\u201d Instead, it\u2019s meant to serve as your everyday web browser that happ<\/a>ens to protect your privacy.<\/p>\n

DuckDuckGo says it\u2019s\u00a0building its desktop browser around the OS-provided rendering engines instead of Chromium. The company says this allows them to \u201cstrip<\/a> away a lot of the unnecessary cruft and clutter that\u2019s accumulated over the years in major browsers.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s all well and good, but a web browser also needs to be fast. DuckDuckGo claims that \u201cCompared to Chrome, the DuckDuckGo app for desktop is cleaner, way more private, and early tests have found it significantly faster too!\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course, we\u2019ll need to test it for ourselves to determine if the company\u2019s claims are valid, but it sounds like a promising browser. Unfortunately,\u00a0Weinberg didn\u2019t announce when we\u2019d get to try out DuckDuckGo\u2019s desktop browser, but hopefully, it\u2019ll be soon.<\/p>\n

A macOS version is in closed beta right now. However, in a tweet<\/a>, the CEO also said it\u2019s working on a Windows version.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
